This is the first and only appearance of Timmy's parents.
Phil Collins is always seen holding an Academy Award. This refers to his award in 1999 for best song, "You'll Be In My Heart" from Disney's Tarzan, which won against a song from South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut called "Blame Canada".
This is the second appearance of Skyler. The first was in the episode "Cat Orgy".
Timmy is the only significant school boy whose last name is unknown. All of the other school boys who play significant role in the series:
The first song that Phil Collins is singing in 'Lalapalaaza' before 'You'll Be in Me' is an altered version of his 80's hit 'Sussudio.'
Dr. Shay's video is titled "You can either calm down, or I can pop you in the mouth again." But the video tape itself only says "You can either calm down, or I can pop you in the mouth." The "again" is missing from the box.
Only Cartman had the visions of pink Christina Aguilera monsters. It's possible, though, that they may have just shown it from his perspective, but the other children had the visions as well.
Ritalin calms down people with ADD, but if a child without ADD takes it, then it makes them hyper. An adult who takes Ritalin and doesn't have ADD will be calmed down.
Amazon.com offers the two books the clinic doctor reads as paperbacks with the following data: "A Farewell To Arms" at 332 pages, and "The Great Gatsby" at 216 pages. The doctor read "The Great Gatsby" in 7 hours, 8 minutes, or 428 minutes. Assuming both paperbacks have the same page dimensions, margins, font size and line spacing, the doctor would have read "A Farewell To Arms" in 10 hours, 58 minutes.
When Chef is in the pharmacy, the door in the background is open in one shot, magically closed in the next, and then open again!
When Chef tells the doctor and pharmacist about the kids going to see Phil Collins in concert, the same voice comes out of both men.
Phil Collins: You shouldn't laugh at people with disabilities!
Man on Street: (points at Collins) Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
(After taking the Ritalin antidote)
Stan: Wait a minute! Phil Collins sucks ass!
Kyle: Yeah! what the hell were we thinking? Boooooo!
Phil Collins: And now, I'd like to sing the complex and amazing song that won me the Oscar, a song entitled: 'You'll be in me.' Thanks. 'You'll be inside of me, deep inside of me. So deep inside, I can feel you pushing against my heart.'
Chef: Hold on a second, you children want to go see Phil Collins?
Stan: Yes, his flowing melodies are really enjoyable to us.
(Chef shows the parents a video on non-medication treatment for ADD)
Dr. Shay: (on video) Hello, I'm Dr. Richard Shay, here to tell you about my exciting new drug-free treatment for children with Attention Deficit Disorder. (Several hyper and rambling children) This treatment is fast and effective and it doesn't use harmful drugs. Watch closely as I apply treatment to the first child. (SMACK) SIT DOWN AND STUDY! If you would like more information on my bold new treatments, please send away for this free brochure entitled: 'You can either calm down, or I can pop you in the mouth again.'
Cartman: You know what you guys: we should go to the concert anyways, and see Phil Collins.
Kyle: Yeah, I think Phil Collins rocks the house.
Phil Collins: Nice to meet you, I'm Phil Collins.
Skylar: Oh yeah, you're opening for us at Lollapalazava.
MTV Announcer: The band prepares for its biggest gig: Lollapaloodada.
Announcer: And now it's time for MTV News, the news that is single handedly responsible for dumbing down the nation. Which is cool.
Chef: Thanks to you, we have children that like Phil Collins!
Pharmaceuticalist: Phil Collins?
Chef: That's right! You made them so dull and boring that they're actually going to go see a Phil Collins concert!
Pharmaceuticalist: Oh my God...it can't be...Phil Collins... (shudders)
Mr. Garrison: We're gonna learn about the reproductive system. Vaginas, and penises! Butt sex!
Kurt Loder: Why am I still doing this? I've got to be the oldest person on this network by at least fourty years.
MTV Announcer: Kurt Loder didn't just say that... No wait, he did just say it, but just to be cool, that's what makes him cool, you think Kurt Loder is cool, and now the news that's cool.
Mr. Garrison: Now who can tell me what famous person wrote the Declaration of Independence...let me see...how about the new student, Timmy??
Mr. Garrison: No, it wasn't you Timmy, try again.
Timmy: (garbled words)
Mr. Garrison: Did you not do your homework?
Stan: Haven't you figured it out yet?? Timmy's retarded.
Mr. Garrison: Don't call people names Stanley!!! Timmy, you need to work on your study skills!
Timmy: (garbled noise and blabber)
Mr. Garrison: Are you mocking me?? That's it!! I'm sending your butt to the principal's office!
Sheila: Kyle was always running around, screaming, like he was a little eight-year-old.
Kyle: But… I am eight.
Stan: Oh my goodness, you killed Kenny.
Kyle: (indifferently) Bastard.
Announcer: You're watching MTV, the cool brain-washing twelve year old and younger station that hides behind a slick image. We're so cool that we decided what's cool.
"Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld" is a playable song in the video game Rock Band
Although Timmy is officially introduced in this episode, he first appeared in "Tooth Fairy TATS 2000."
Timmy's father's name is Richard and his mom's name is Helen.
During MTV News with Kurt Loder you can see images from South Park season 2 episode "Chef Aid" on the screens to his left.
Phil Collins won the Oscar for best song the same year Trey and Matt were nominated for "Blame Canada."
During a spring 2002 rerun cycle, this was named by Comedy Central as the 5th most "notorious" episode of the series.
Mr. Derp (who replaced Chef in Season 3 - The Succubus) can be seen serving drinks at the Phil Collins concert.
The Lords of the Underworld were also featured in 3rd season, episode 307 "Cat Orgy". The lead singer was Shelly Marsh's boyfriend in the episode ''Cat Orgy'' and the band members came over to practice their songs.
Comedy Central has released two pay-per-download MP3 singles from Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld entitled "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld" and "Livin' a Lie."
The Kids of Widney High:
The controversy surrounding Timmy as a handicapped kid fronting a rock band may refer to the popularity of Wesley Willis, Daniel Johnston, or the Kids of Widney High.
Sisters of Mercy:
The band "Sisters of Mercy Hold No Pain Against the Dark Lord" is a parody on the band Sisters of Mercy; the name and sound of the band are rather reminiscent of the real band.
There is a Rush song called: "The Spirit of Radio", which contains a similar guitar riff like the Timmy song.
The way Collins talks and acts is very similar to the Gumbies from Monty Python's Flying Circus show.
Phil Collins: And now, I'd like to sing the complex and amazing song that won me the Oscar, a song entitled: 'You'll be in me.'
Phil Collins won the 2000 Oscar for "You'll be in My Heart" from the 1999 animated film "Tarzan." He was up against and beat (like red-headed stepchildren) Trey Parker and Marc Shaiman for "Blame Canada." Their constant ripping on Phil Collins is obviously their form of sweet revenge.
The concert at which Timmy and Phil Collins will be playing is referred to by a different mangled name every time it is mentioned(Lollapaloodada, and so on).
It is a spoof on the 1990's Lollapalooza alternative music festival founded by Perry Farrell of the bands "Jane's Addiction" and "Porno for Pyros."
