  • Trivia

    • The Japanese text written in this episode have no significant meanings.

      1. At the scene right before the first Japanese ship caught fire, you can see some Japanese characters next to the oil drums. None of the characters meant 'Fuel' or 'Storage', both of which are written right above them.

      2. While the boys were in prison, the plaque above them would translate to 'point', 'degree' and 'dog' separately.

      3. The red sign next to the prison cell was directing people to somewhere of 'high voltage'.

    • Unlike the actual model, the Enola Gay aircraft as shown in this episode has an extra window at its middle fuselage section, where the whale was standing.

    • When the 'World News' papers were shown, there is a spelling error in one of the articles, which reads Baghdad in Termoil.

    • While 'Pokerface' is played through the Whale Wars scenes, Cartman sings "I wanna hold 'em like they do in Texas Plays", followed by "A little gambling is fun when you're with me, I love it...".

In the original version, both lyrics are not sung together in a single stanza.

    • At the Beginning of this episode, Cartman, Kyle and Kenny are playing the music video game, Rock Band. They are playing the song, "Poker Face", by Lady Gaga. However this song is not playable in Rock Band. Also when they show the TV screen, although Cartman is singing, he has no on-screen lyrics, and although there are 3 people playing, the screen shows 4 people.

To mark the start of the 14th season, a Lady Gaga pack was released for the game, along with an Eric Cartman-sung version of Poker Face.

  • Quotes

    • Larry King: Paul Watson was an unorganized, incompetent media whore who thought lying to everyone is OK as long as it served his cause.
Interviewee: Yes, of course, everyone knows that Paul Watson was a smug, narcoleptic liar with no credibility
Stan Marsh: Screw this, I've got to get back to work

    • Cartman: Japanese people REALLY do not like whales.

    • Cartman: (Using Rock Band mike) Stan, me and Kenny don't give two shits about stupid-ass whaaales.

    • News Reader: When asked if all of Japan supported the slaughtering of whales and dolphins, the current Prime Minister of Japan, Yukio Hatoyama, had this to say-
      (Cuts to Japanese PM)
Japanese PM: (Clears throat) F*ck you, whale! And f*ck you, dolphin!

    • Cartman: (Singing) Well I'm in Japanese prison, Lord; Japanese prison got me down. (Plays harmonica) Said I'm in Japanese prison, Lord; Don't be long here my eyes are round.(Plays harmonica)

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • The Death of Michael Jackson: On top of the Entertainment Weekly magazine featuring Stan on the cover is the line 'We're STILL Remembering Michael Jackson'. This is a reference to the tremendous amount of media attention the death of pop singer Michael Jackson was still receiving even though Jackson's death occured more that four months prior to this original airing.

    • Whale Wars:

The title, "Whale Whores" is a parody to the show "Whale Wars". During this episode the cast of Whale Wars can be seen.

    • Godzilla: The statue Stan uses to scare the Japanese away is of Godzilla, a pop-culture icon from Japan.
