Another solid episode of Southland here tonight. I like the mistake by Tang, and how the police force seemed to just cover up the mistake. Few shows will display cops like this, but that's just one more reason why Southland is great.

Eh, the Sammy and Ben fighting was a little disappointing and unnecessary, but I didn't mind it that much. The taco truck incident more than made their scenes worth watching.moreless
  • Stress & the Job

    8.5
A police officer's job is stressful. Sometimes it is hard to keep your personal life separate from your professional life. Officer Tang had trouble with that in this episode and it clearly affected her judgement and actions leading up to the beginning scene.

The episode is a little different, focusing more on drama than previous episodes (maybe not as powerful as biting Cooper's neck in last week's episode) but the episode still had its action moments (Ben/Sammy with Crazy Mary). The show tackles many situations of the cops and stress. How stress due to the job and changes you, and how stress due to your personal life influences the your performance on the job; today's episode clearly showed both sides of the spectrum.

Southland is one of the few great shows left on TV. They do their best to mimic realism. Its nice to see Larry Gilliard Jr. back on TV (near the end of the episode).moreless

    • Opening Voiceover: LAPD officers start every shift knowing they might only have a fraction of a second to make a difficult choice. The ramifications will last their whole lives.

    • Det. Fernandez: Breakfast of champions... got a call. Lincoln Heights. Uh, step into my office before you head out. It will only take a sec. (Lydia enters her office) You want to tell me why you've been here burning the midnight oil? There's no approval for overtime, you know.
Lydia: (scoffs) I'm not gonna sue the city if that's what you're worried about. I just got a little behind. I'm catching up.
Det. Fernandez: You feeling any better? (walks over to shut office door)
      Lydia: What?
Det. Fernandez: You been dragging. Heard you weren't feeling well.
Lydia: (scoffs) It's just a bug.
Det. Fernandez: You can level with me, Lydia, woman to woman.
Lydia: I'll let you know if something comes up (turns and opens door to leave office). I gotta go -- that traffic is gonna be a bear.
