  • The writers are succeeding in writing a show about law enforcement officers that gets you more interested in the officers than the crimes to which they are responding. This takes finesse and is delivered well.moreless

    9.0
Our two lead characters (Cooper and Sherman) both have a history of having poor fathers. One has the most sympathy for officer Brown with the jerk who is her partner. His disposition at the end was funny. Personally, I do hope that they keep the emphasis on their lives in uniform versus at home or at play.

My favorite line is when the pro-athlete with the mansion says, "C'mon Manix, bring me my dog." I wonder how many younger people today would catch the reference.

I think if this is any reflection of real life for an officer, you'd have to wonder how long it would take before they would become jaded from seeing both crime and just some unsavory folks.

Fighting against that seems to be an unspoken issue at play. It's keeping me watching.

    • Karen Campbell: (discussing her drug-addicted dead sister) Why do women do that? Go back to the men that hurt them?
Russell Clarke: It's a terrible disease.
Karen Campbell: Screw that. Lou Gehrig had a disease. Muhammad Ali had a disease. Michael J. Fox has a disease.
Russell Clarke: Franklin D. Roosevelt. (both burst out laughing)

    • Opening Voiceover: Three officers started out the day thinking they had nothing in common. By end of shift, two of them found out this was not true.

    • Cooper: We're the police. We will protect you.
Sheila: Look, you seem like... a lovely gentleman, but... who the hell do you think you're kidding?

    • Cooper: What the hell are you doing? People become cops for two reasons, all right. They need the paycheck or they like to carry a big gun and tell people what to do. Now you, you surely don't need the money. I don't think you're a freak. So what the hell are you doing here?
      Sherman: I'm a cop, same as you're a cop.

    • Dr. Campbell: So you're 10 years old, your father walks out on you, drug dealers beat up your mom, and it's fine?
Sherman: And now I'm a cop, thank you, Dr. Freud.
