  • Another great episode!

Another excellent episode. Ben Sherman learns a lesson early on that perhaps some police officers might takes years to learn, and you can see that it is hardening him, his tolerance is waning. This though is the way any police officer needs to be. Clearly his background with domestic violence may be at play, but the example of his determination to help people shows that he wants to care, he doesn't want to "live in the grey" he wants things to be black and white, he needs a line in the sand, but what he fears is having to draw it for himself.

This episode demonstrates what makes Southland truly a fantastic show. The scenes are, much like life, short, to the point, and sometimes brutal. The separation of Officer Sherman and Officer Cooper will allow for some potential future story lines, when the apprentice will have to stand up for himself. Officer Cooper seems to be a real policeman's policeman, but with his aching back, and holier then thou attitude I wonder how long before he is brought back to earth. Cooper tells Sherman that he "has a lot of power out there" but clearly not enough, and that seems to be the lesson Sherman, and the viewer, will have to take away from this episode. We depend on the police, we count on them to make us safe, we give them powers so that they can do this job, but sometimes, those powers come up short, with consequences.moreless
