  • The inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha encounter Earth's first intergalactic probe and must face the consequences.

The inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha encounter Earth's first intergalactic probe and find themselves confronted by two seperate, but equally deadly problems. First, Voyager One uses a sepcial kind of intersteller drive that spews radiation and destroys everything it encounters. With the probe approaching Alpha, Commander Koenig must decide whether or not to destroy the probe or attempt a risky recovery that may kill everyone on the base.

The second problem stems from the first. Aliens are tracking the probe in an attempt to find out its planet of origin. Looking to avenge the destruction caused by the probe when it entered their space, they seek the probe's creators in order to serve justice upon those who sent it.

This is one of the better Space 1999 episodes in the first season. Although the aliens' make-up and the design of their ships are fairly humorous, the show features a good sci-fi plot. There is some wooden acting, but some good acting too, and in my opinion the show is quite watchable.

Seeing this episode now, I was struck once again by the generally good model work, the cool costumes and the fantastic sets this series used. It really had some top notch special effects people working on it. I call this episode good.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Voyager 1 contains a Queller drive that, according to Koenig, made interstellar travel possible but in "Dragon's Domain", the trip to Ultra, which was within Earth's solar system, took eight months. Voyager was launched in 1985, 11 years before the Ultra mission so a Queller drive (or a safer version) should have been a viable option by then.

    • When the Eagle explodes, the mounting used to hold it for filming is visible.

    • One of the Eagles has a booster pod in one long shot but at all other times, all the Eagles are in the standard configuration.

    • Goof: During close-up shots of Voyager 1's drive, droplets of water can be seen dripping from the water jet used during the special effects shot.

  • NOTES (1)

    • The "This Episode" section features a shot of four Eagles flying through space that was not used in the actual episode. In this shot, the Eagle in the middle is lit differently in comparison to the others.
