  • Nothing great but not that bad to watch either.

    7.9
I feel they mimicked the idea of an all purpose soldier from the Book Star Ship Troopers. The sense that all marines are riflemen first and everything secondary is shown even more so in this episode than in any other so far. Using so called elite pilots to be like tunnel rats surprises even me. It is totally illogical that while losing a war you would use your best resources to do what should be done with cannon fodder. And to arm them with pistols and fatigues really annoys me as they had body armor, rifles and motion sensor mines in previous episodes. One thing I do like is the possibility of the next evolution in humanity shown. When one member of the 58th is shown to said powers we get to see how special branches of the military use (or abuse) them.moreless
  • Damphousse's first episode.

    8.1
Until now, Damphousse and to a lesser extent Wang have been pretty underused characters. Damphousse rarely gets any lines and gets almost no character development. Well, that all changes with this episode.

During a raid on an enemy underground installation, Damphousse sees strange lights around other Marines before they are killed. This strange intuition allows her to save the lives of the 58th, by not letting them follow a group of soldiers surrounded by this light.

Upon returning to the Saratoga, she is interviewed about her strange intuition, and she attracts the attention of a colonel specialising in developing PSI abilities. Because he thinks she needs extreme pressure for her gift to work, he creates another mission for the 58th in the hopes that she will be forced to use her powers again.

During the course of the mission, Damphousse sees Colonel Burke and a fellow marine in the strange light, and sure enough, they die. When they return to the Saratoga with their mission objectives complete, Damphousse keeps the recordings the Colonel made of her, but does not pursue the matter any further.

As an episode, there is nothing technically wrong with this one, however, something just doesn't feel right. The powers Damphousse have are slightly inexplicable, she has been around many other people before they died before and never saw strange lights around them, and even when she does see them she cant seem to do anything to prevent that person from dying. Lanai Chapman acts the role very well, but the underlying concept does not seem well conceived or developed, and in the end I think that's what stops this episode from being great.moreless
