Once again the 58th are knee deep in trouble and once again they are caught behind enemy lines needing to get to a pickup point. This one I feel has been done before but with a few slight twists. There were so many illogical sequences in this episode that really annoyed me. For one, one does not leave the battle to go to the toilet. Another if whatever they were fighting at the beginning was beating them as badly as they indicate, the aliens would have been in a great position to destroy one APC, which is just a mockup M113 with a few turrets added to make it look futuristic. The LAW or little bazooka they used can barely dent a tank in today’s battlefield much less destroy an alien tank. In all this wasn’t that great of an episode.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Apparently Great Britain is under the rule of a King in 2064, since MacKendrick's farewell to the 58th includes "God save the King!"

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Pearly: (as her guns destroy the Chig tank) This beer's on you, Chiggie boy.

    • MacKendrick: (burying Sgt Fox) If the Chigs come across the grave, they'll dig it up and mutilate the body. Do you realize they had no concept of a life after death until they heard it from us? My theory is, they believe half of us are living dead- an army of zombies.

    • Damphousse: (under fire) We're 100 klicks away from the ARD and no cover!
Hawkes: Aw, we're gonna get spammed!
Col McQueen: (spotting an APC) We got cover. There's our ride out.
Wang: So we're gonna be Spam in a can!

    • Damphousse: Come on Pearly, who loves ya huh? You know it's me, baby. (Pearly starts) That weirds me out on so many different levels...

    • Wang: Where's the latrine?
McQueen: This whole planet is a 'head'.

    • Hawkes: You know, Sedgewick...
      Maj MacKendrick: MacKendrick!
Hawkes: I've spent a lot of time alone before. I don't know what you think is so great about it.
MacKendrick: Well, to begin with, when alone one rarely ties oneself up and holds oneself prisoner.

    • MacKendrick: MRE, what's that stand for?
Wang: Meals rejected by the enemy.

    • Hawkes: You and your APC are out of simpatico.
      Fox: TANK!
McQueen: No need to get ugly, Sergeant.
Fox: Pearly is not an armoured personnel carrier, she's a tank! You call her an APC one more time, I'll use your guts to grease her treads!

    • Fox: I know all's fair in love and war but this is ridiculous!

    • Fox: Jiminy H Christmas on a popsicle stick, give me a small break!

    • Fox: Louie Fox, Sergeant 1st Class, 7th Cavalry. From Custer's last stand to here, if there's a massacre, we're in it.

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode was filmed at a small air strip near Agua Dulce and Vasquez Rock in Antelope Valley, which is approximately 20 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Elroy EL: (to Feliciti OH) 'Death, that has sucked the honey of thy breath, hath no power yet upon the power of thy beauty.'

These are the words spoken by Romeo over the body of Juliet in Act V, Scene III, in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

    • The song that Sgt Fox hums as he drives Pearly is the theme from the movie Patton starring George C. Scott, which followed the campaigns of the General's tank corps during World War II in North Africa and Europe.
