  • Space Above and Beyond Movie?

    9.0
Would love to see the link behind that announcement of a movie. So far I have not been able to find anything.

As for the show itself, an amazing show, well played, and good for the amount of time that they had to work with. As someone who has been overseas and seen the Iraq war "end" you know that really wars never end. Thanks to the Wiki entry we know how the series would have gone, As it was, we were lucky enough to get a glimpse of how it all started.moreless
  • COMING SOON: END GAME SPACE ABOVE AND BEYOND MOVIE!!

    2.0
Dan Lopez III is currently in negotiations with 20th Century Fox and Glen Morgan & James Wong to bring the finale Space Above & Beyond should have gotten to the big screen!

The working title is END GAME. Plot under tight lock and key. Only plot point leaked: As the fans may have suspected, there is more to Mc Queen than meets the eye.
  • Ended on a bad if not weak note in my view

    8.3
What I hate about season finales is if it is a cliffhanger. It tends to leave a lot of questions for future episodes and in this series case it never gets answered. Finally when it looks like the Humans are winning, we get a twist on the war will be that much longer. We finally get confirmation on who the aliens are and how they look like. I really don’t like how the 58th looks like when they get broken up. Another key logic is only 5 hammerheads are sent to a mission of great importance and the 58th are reduced to cargo duty in my view. Only one member dies and at least we know how his future ends. It could have been better but it not that bad.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The closing credits begin with the Executive Producers' names, and then the acronym AMF. This stands for "Adios, Mother ****ers!", though it's usually meant in a jocular manner among friends.

    • When preparing to send out the rescue mission, Ross first names the 59th as the squadron who will lead it in an ISSCV. When he decides to send the 58th in that capacity instead, the 59th are tasked as Hammerhead fighter support for the 58th.

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Wang: (sacrificing himself to hold off the Chigs while the other marines rescue the POWs) Ooh-rah! Lieutenants Winslow, Jenkowitz, Woodiak, Nelson... This is for you!

    • Hawkes: (sitting on Shane's rack) Now I know how she felt her whole life. I lost my mother and father on the same day.

    • (after listening to her message, "I believe in you" on Nathan's photo tag, Kylen records a new message)
Kylen: I believe in all of you.

    • Damphousse: Captain, we got a vehicle full of civilians. We cannot engage in A.C.M.
Vansen: Ah, it'll give them something to talk about. (she spins the ISSAPC into a violent maneuver, and the civilians shriek in terror)

    • Hawkes: (to the rescued colonists) Okay, strap yourselves in! This flight's gonna suck, and we don't serve peanuts!

    • Commodore Ross: Shuffle up the Wild Cards! And deal 'em!

    • Wang: Colonel, what'll you do if the war's over?
Col. McQueen: Well, I'll find a quiet place, alone, and ask forgiveness for the lives I've taken. Then I'll pull out the accordion, get naked and polka around the flight deck.
      Vansen: Pray for war.

    • Wang: (in the 58th's quarters) I won't miss Hawkes' aggressive flatulence!
Damphousse: (taking a pillow off her face) It's clear on your 6:00.
Col. McQueen: (entering their quarters) That cabbage was good, wasn't it, Hawkes?

    • Admiral Stenner: If it were only human I could look it in the eye, I could get some kind of feeling, a hunch, anything that told me if this was the truth or a lie. Colonel?
Colonel McQueen: I understand what you're saying, sir. Even with an A.I. I get a sense of the enemy. But as I look at that thing... all I get is an odd feeling that this is either a beginning... or an end.

  • NOTES (2)

    • James Wong and Glen Morgan discussed the show's ending, and some of their plans for further seasons of the show during a chat for the Sci-Fi Channel who were reshowing the series. They say that they had intended the show to go five seasons, and that they didn't have a set ending in mind. They had about 6-12 episodes of season 2 mapped out when they learned that the show would not be returning.

They planned the season one finale's ending to be ambiguous, leaving the fates of Wang, Vansen, Damphousse and Col McQueen up in the air to be resolved in the next season, but when they learned they were being cancelled, they shot the episode more straightforwardly. Sadly, Paul was killed, but it's unknown whether they meant to bring back Shane and Vanessa in any way. Col McQueen was meant to return to Earth and go into rehab for a lost leg replaced by an artificial (AI!) one. The Wild Cards were to get a new female commander to take Col McQueen's place. The rest of the squadron would be filled with new characters.

    • Part two of two in the series finale story arc.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • ...Tell Our Moms We Done Our Best:

This episode's title, and the preceeding one "And If They Lay Us Down To Rest..." comes from an old Airborne School Running Cadence:

      C-130 rollin' down the strip,
      64 troopers on a one-way trip.
      Mission top secret, destination unknown,
We don't know if we're ever comin' home.

Stand up, hook up, shuffle to the door,
Jump on out and count to four.
If my main don't open wide,
I pack a reserve by my side.

If that one should fail me too,
Look out ground, I'm a comin' through!

If I die on the old drop zone,
Box me up and ship me home.
As they lay me down to rest,
Tell my mom I did my best.
Give all my jump pay to my wife,
So she'll be happy for the rest of her life.
Tell my little baby not to cry,
'Cause her daddy was a paratrooper when he died.
