Space: Above and Beyond

FOX (ended 1996)

FILTER BY SEASON

  • The closing credits begin with the Executive Producers' names, and then the acronym AMF. This stands for "Adios, Mother ****ers!", though it's usually meant in a jocular manner among friends. Edit

  • When preparing to send out the rescue mission, Ross first names the 59th as the squadron who will lead it in an ISSCV. When he decides to send the 58th in that capacity instead, the 59th are tasked as Hammerhead fighter support for the 58th. Edit

  • Cooper's t-shirt reads "First To Go Last To Know". Edit

  • As they prepare to leave the first battle, Commodore Ross orders the ship to set course for the Helios System, even though they are said to be going to the planet Ixion. At first glance, this might seem to be a goof. However, the planet Ixion might be in the Helios System. Alternately, Helios may be a waypoint, since there are occasionally spacial phenonmenon that must be avoided, such as a black hole, that might force them to take an indirect route to Ixion- and an indirect route might avoid Chig patrols, giving them the element of surprise. One more explanation might be that they are going to be taking a wormhole in order to get to Ixion faster, located in the Helios System. Edit

  • Nitpick The General unzips the body bag of the frozen corpse just seconds after it had registered as being -273° C (-459.4° F) within the criogenic chamber. The zipper would have immediately frozen to the General's hands and caused damage to his fingers. Edit

  • AMF stands for "Adios, mother ****er". Edit

  • Apparently Great Britain is under the rule of a King in 2064, since MacKendrick's farewell to the 58th includes "God save the King!" Edit

  • Nitpick: In the Marines, Recon is one of the elite units. There's no way five rookies and an officer who just graduated from OCS would be sent out as a Recon squad together without anyone experienced. At most, ONE private might make it into such a unit, but only if he was extremely skilled in Boot, and even then, he'd be watched like a hawk by his fellow soldiers until he proved himself under fire. Generally speaking, new troops get experienced NCOs and officers, and vice versa- even in war, when manpower is short! Edit

  • Nitpick: When heading towards their designated coordinates for their hide spots on Mors, Vansen takes point, and orders the others to follow her in column formation. As the commanding officer of the two squads, Vansen should not have been out in front, as that is one of the most dangerous positions in their formation. Edit

  • Goof: Steven Jang is listed as playing the role of Intelligence Officer Connor in the closing credits, but on screen he wears a name tag that says "Rancier". Edit

  • First Act Caption: "The youth had been taught that man became another thing in battle. He saw his salvation in such a change." Stephen Crane, The Red Badge of Courage Second Act Caption: "For God's sake, give me the young man who has brains enough to make a fool of himself." Robert Louis Stevenson, Crabbed Age and Youth Fourth Act Caption: "He conceived persons with torn bodies to be particularly happy. He wished that he, too, had a wound, a red badge of courage." Stephen Crane, The Red Badge of Courage Fifth Act Caption: "We are all dead men on leave" Eugene Levine, Men In Dark Times Episode Closing Caption: "So it came to pass that as he trudged from the place of blood and wrath his soul was changed." Stephen Crane, The Red Badge of Courage Edit

  • CFB stands for "Clear as a ****ing Bell. Edit

  • Trivia: The passage McQueen is reading in his quarters is from Homer's The Iliad. Edit

  • Elroy EL tells Col McQueen that Chiggy von Richthofen is stationed in the Achilles System. This seems to be an interesting coincidence, given that Col McQueen had earlier read aloud one of the most famous quotes by the hero Achilles from Homer's Iliad. The aforementioned quote referes to the one on one combat between Achilles and the Trojan Prince Hector, just as McQueen is about to take on the Chig Ace all by himself. Edit

  • Goof: When the explosions in the munitions dump are going off, the stalactites can clearly be seen wobbling. Edit

  • Goofs: When Hawkes dives into the lake, his rifle has a silencer. When he emerges, it does not, but it is back again seconds later. Edit

  • Goof: In the scene near the end when Wang is standing on the wing looking out at the River of Stars, the tether he had been attached to is no longer visible. Edit

  • Trivia: The television show they intercept in space while working on the radio is an episode of Batman from the 1960s. Edit

  • Nitpick: It's extremely unlikely that the true identities of the 61st would not have been discovered after being brought back to the Saratoga, even if they were in a bad state due to decomposition. Even in the 20th century, DNA testing is routinely done upon the fallen to confirm their identities. It's possible that the testing required more time than the three days that elaspsed, however, between Nathan's return and the operation that was to lobotomize him. But even so, they could have used dental records to do a preliminary ID, and there would have been too many anomalies to be ignored, particularly as West continued to insist that his comrades weren't dead. Edit

  • Nitpick: The section eight marine on the planet is referred to as a lieutenant, but when being questioned aboard the Saratoga, he is referred to as a sergeant. Edit
