Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • At the crime scene where the professor was murdered, the Tarn police officer that Brogan addresses as Selmar is missing the DCPD shoulder patch from the right arm of his jacket as he turns towards the dumpster.

    • Unless the bank vault's inner door was built to withstand sudden decompression and/or the vacuum of space, the top of the bank should've buckled tremendously.

    • Zan sprays his hand with some latex-y substance in order to get the handprint of the manager. This wouldn't work for two reasons:
Zan needed the fingerprint at the tip of the finger but the manager's fingers go across Zan's palm and around to the back of of his hand.
Zan places his latex "hand" on the monitor like he'd put his own hand but that would have the palm and fingerprints upside-down.

    • If Haldane doesn't believe in luck, as he told Castle in "The Witness", why does he tease Castle with his 'your lucky I still exist' statement?

    • Cancel the security card after the cops get around to thinking of it? The security company and/or armored car company would've looked to see who the team in the vehicle and rescind their security clearances for this very reason.

The company that employed them would know who was driving/riding in the stopped vehicle through their work schedules, and know who is dead that way. Yes, it would take time, but the way the episode plays out, Brogan gets the break with the card some time after the discovery of the armored car. The other company(ies) would've notified the families and rescinded anything sensitive either man had connected to him.

  • QUOTES (7)

  • NOTES (6)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Brogan: I'm a pimple! This is a paraphrased take on John Belushi's line as Bluto in Animal House, "I'm a zit."

    • Haldane: C'mon baby, hold together.

A direct reference to Han Solo's directive to the Millenium Falcon in Star Wars.

    • The bank manager and later Zan use the phrase "open says me", which references the phrase from Ali Babba and The 40 Thieves/1001 Arabian Nights, which is "open sesame". Also, Zan fulfills the Ali Babba/thief role and mutters the phrase right before he steals from the vault.

    • The episode title is meant to evoke the phrase 'helter skelter', meaning confusedly hurried and haphazard. The phrase was used as the title of a book about the Charles Manson "family" killing spree, so that kind of haphazardliness is also associated with the phrase.

The smelter part of the title references Zan's factory where the gold, and other metals, were extracted from space rocks and such.
