Show Summary

Special Investigations L.A. is the NBC crime drama from "Traffic" writer Stephen Gaghan. The series is executive produced by former industry executives Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope along with Gaghan, who is also writing and directing the pilot. Gaghan is a screenwriter and director best known for his film Traffic, which got him an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2000. In his new pilot Special Investigations L.A., we see the complex system of Los Angeles law, through the eyes of law enforcement, the justice system, politicians, and the criminal underworld. Jimmy Smits has signed on to play the ambitious Los Angeles Mayor Alfonso Morales, who created the Special Investigations Unit which is lead by detective Terry Mullins (Noah Emmerich). Morales is a complex and ambitious man who deeply cares for Los Angeles, power and women, not necessarily in that order. Mullins is back in LA, hoping to get back in the good graces of his daughter Jennifer (Emma Dumont), and her Mother and his ex-wife Mary McCarthy (Madchen Amick), a high-powered attorney.
