Season 2 Episode 8

The Beast

Aired Wednesday 8:00 PM Nov 21, 2001 on UPN

  • Trivia

    • The Twins: The lie/truth behavior of Barbi and Staci, the twin scavenger 'links, is that of a classical logic puzzle (often presented as twins at life-or-death doors, or guards at a fork in the road leading to two life-or-death villages), and seen in many stories, including the movie Labyrinth (1986), Kate's solution is the correct one.

  • Quotes

    • Kate: It makes you wonder if there's anyone out there like that?
Nick: Good looking, charming, funny, and sensitive? Yeah there is. There's you.

    • Nick: You know what, you should have given her a chance, Carl. Maybe she had a good heart.
      (long pause)
Carl: You kill me, O'Malley. (they both laugh)

    • Kate: When have I ever hesitated to wear revealing clothes and act like a sex object in the service of the greater good?
Nick: Well, when you put it that way, it's amazing we don't get you to do it all the time!

    • Kate: If I ask Stacie whether or not you always tell the truth, what's she gonna say?
Barbie: She'll say no, I never tell the truth.
Kate: She's telling the truth. Stacie's the liar.
      Stacie: Am not.
      Kate: Yeah you are.
Nick: I could say I get why, but then I'd be lying.
Kate: If Barbie's the liar then Stacie the truth-teller would answer no; Barbie never tells the truth. If Barbie's the liar, she would have lied to me and told me Stacie would answer yes.
Nick: But Barbie said she'd answer no.
Kate: Which means Barbie's the truth-teller. I mean, c'mon, how much simpler can it get?
      Nick: Honestly? 'Way simpler.

    • Nick: I'll take a lapdance.
      Lacy: How long?
Nick: The rest of the day.
Lacy: The rest of the day?
      Nick: Yeah, that's right.
      Businessman: You are my hero!

    • Kate: Okay, just explain it to me. What is it about naked women that turn men into mindless droolers?
      Nick: The "naked" part.

    • Jonathan: (Reading what Carl is typing) Oh, my god.
      Carl: Relax. We're consenting adults.
Jonathan: Who are you writing that to?
Carl: My girlfriend. And I'm almost positive it's legal.

    • Nick: There were pheremones bouncing all over the parking lot - one of them almost hit me in the eye. So am I wrong?
      Kate: Isn't that a given?

    • Kate: Just because you're emotionally bruised when it comes to relationships doesn't mean you only have to go after unavailable women.
Nick: It doesn't? Then what's the point?

  • Notes

    • Music: The song playing in the strip club at the beginning of the show is Relax (1983) by the group Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

  • Allusions
