  • It is reunion time for one of The Special Unit Two team members and high school does not have fond memories.

    7.8
It is reunion time for one of The Special Unit Two team members and high school does not have fond memories. This high school has a history of more than on police alumnus. It is about to hold a reunion and be demolished. That's when things begin to get chaotic.

Can a Special Unit Two member save their reputation? Will the obligatory creature(s) get away? Is there a new form of building wrap? Is this where I make a bad joke about a missing link?

As often happens, there is a short-coming in the makeup department in "Special Unit Two." In this episode, watch for some creature's panty line to show through the costume.

Of course, one doesn't watch "Special Unit Two" with a crtical eye. This is a guilty pleasure.moreless
  • A nice look into Kate\'s background.

    8.1
this is an episode that gives us an insight to Kate's character, but not much more of an insight into links. As the show opens Kate is debating going back to her high school reunion. That's often a tough decision for many people due to people that you may not wish to see, or being reminded of bad times, and it seems the same applies to Kate. Eventually Nick convinces her to go the reunion with a nice bit of banter between the two of them. It's that character interaction that makes me like this show.

Later, at the reunion, we find out that Kate is called Boo by all of her fellow classmates. This is due to her having thought the walls contained a monster and disturbing the graduation ceremony because she was afraid someone might get hurt by the monster. Unfortunately no one else saw the monster or believed they existed.

Now it turns out the monster does exist and is out to kill people because the school is about to be turned down. As the show goes on we see some people being killed and almost killed. Eventually it turns out there are multiple creatures living in the school and Nick and Kate are without their weapons (since who expects to need guns at a school reunion.) Also it turns out the creatures can (and do) secrete a substance on the doors and windows that makes it impossible to break thru them.

Finally the creatures start coming out of the walls to attack the people at the reunion party. When they start coming after the people everyone realizes that Kate was right all along that there were creatures in the walls. Luckily it turns out that the Links have a weakness to loud noises so Kate and Nick are able to start a feedback loop with a guitar and an amp that seems to knock out the creatures long enough for another unit to arrive from Special Unit 2 with the weapons to handle the creatures.

They do a good job at filling in the normal stereotypes from the obnoxious jock to the theater geek to the cheerleader type. The jock is made to seem more pathetic when he keeps hitting on Kate and finally admits that his time in high school was the high point of his life. They also did a decent job with the creatures. They give them huge claws and a greyish color (which fits in with their diet of concrete.)

Overall it's a decent episode. Oh... I forgot a subplot that's been added for a nice bit of comic relief as Captain Paige goes and vacation to a secluded fishing cabin and Carl manages to sneak into his car and ends up at the cabin. Captain Paige then takes advantage of Carl's weaknesses and gets him to clean up any mess in the cabin (because gnomes are neat freaks) and plays Carl quite well during a card game. This plot has nothing to do with the main one and is mostly included as a filler, but it makes for a nice interlude as Danny Woodburn is great as Carl.moreless
