Episode Summary

EDIT
Everything is in place for the wedding of the century: A star-studded turnout, a beautiful church, a maniacal priest with a god complex, a power-hungry groom and a hypnotized bride. The only thing missing is a photographer... And if the one uninvited guest can crash this party, he might just run away with the bride.moreless

  • The wedding of the century goes off with a… well, actually, the photographer runs off with the bride!

    9.9
The episode opens with a touching scene between Saiga and Bob discussing Kagura. Again the writers handle this tentative romance with delicacy (a 15 year old girl and a 33 year old man is touchy subject matter). Saiga admits he loves her and when Bob (very humorously) warns that a romance wouldn't be healthy for either of them, Saiga admits Kagura is dying. He wants nothing from her except that her remaining months be free.

A lot of the club members are sick to start with but good old Suitengu takes it a step further – in order to gain control of the Tennozu empire, Suitengu intends to wed Kagura, disregarding the small detail that she's only 15 years old! He gets around this by altering her birth certificate. As for Kagura herself, since she would kill herself rather than marry the man who killed her mother (not to mention abused her while the 'goddess'), she is hypnotized for the ceremony making her the perfect obedient bride.

The dress is gorgeous, the bride beautiful and having Kagura descend from above on an elevator with two little bridesmaids dressed as angels was lovely. You could almost forget why the wedding was taking place. The one sour note during this lovely scene was Suitengu's 'summons', as if he was announcing the 'goddess', which informs us that a significant majority of the guests have to be club members or I doubt he would make such a telling statement.

Yet again Saiga shows his creativity in dealing with these freaks, managing to infiltrate the wedding disguised as the very assassin who tried to kill him (and Ginza) in the previous episode. Though I could have gone to my grave without seeing Saiga in those white pants! Brilliant how he planned ahead, making sure all the press were outside the doors, then blowing them apart so the events in the church were exposed to the public. Suitengu and his goons immediately hesitated to move against Saiga when the world is watching. Impressive duel between Saiga and Suitengu before Saiga does what he came to do – he runs off with the blushing bride!

But Suitengu gets the last laugh - his secretary lodged the marriage licence so Suitengu and Kagura are actually married!

Saiga still has to deal with the psycho priest with the god complex but once that's done, he can concentrate on Kagura who snaps out of it and regards her beautiful dress with horror before tossing it to the winds and steps, in only her underwear, onto the ladder of the helicopter with Saiga. When the priest attacks the helicopter and Saiga and Kagura fall, they land safely in the water… under the same billboard from the first night they met.

I love the Ginza storyline. The woman's a psycho but (despite the fact she's completely obsessed with him), she genuinely does seem to love Saiga. Having Kagura and Saiga's obvious feelings for her thrown in Ginza's face again and again, I actually feel sorry for her.

    Last thoughts:

    - Does the government actually believe Suitengu will allow them to take control of the club?

    - Suitengu's secretary kissed Kagura - does that mean that she's going to emerge with powers too or was she just trying her luck, hoping she's a Euphoric?

    - Kagura is still calling Saiga 'Mr Saiga' despite all they've been through. Certainly reinforces the idea that, from her side, she thinks of him more in a parent/brother role. This is an impression Saiga encourages in the episodes to follow.

An exciting chapter with nice handling of Saiga's feelings for Kagura. My favourite ep so far.moreless
