Speed puts up the deflector as lava splashes onto the Mach Five. Speed takes over recapping the story.
Helicopters take the spectators to the finish line. Here Chief Zuma reminds everybody that if Speed loses, then Kapetepek's borders will remain closed. So we can assume that Speed is the League of Countries' representative. What other ambassadorial privileges has he been given?
Meanwhile under the volcano, Speed isn't sure he's heading in the right direction. He decides to leave it up to luck. As he races to catch up, Speed wonders what's causing all the accidents he's been seeing. But before he can figger it out, everyone is stopped at an underground lake. The lake drains revealing a stone dragon. The head breaks off, killing a driver. More cars get taken out as the dragon falls to pieces.
The race continues through a petrified prehistoric jungle. Later, Kadar and his men stop where there are thousands of diamonds. As they pick away at the stones, a tentacled monster grabs some of the men and cars. They decide to leave the diamonds. When Speed encounters the monster, he uses the cutters to slice through the tentacles.
Further down the road, Kadar finds the treasure cache. Kabala tries to protect the treasure. Speed joins in the fray. During the fight, Kabala's mask drops off, revealing Racer X underneath. Speed demands an answer.
Before Speed can get an answer, he is nearly taken out by a guy with a wrench. During the interchange, Kadar and his men come to. As Racer X and Speed back away from Kadar's gun, the floor falls out from underneath. Kadar et al load their cars with the treasure.
As Speed and Racer X try to find their way out of the pit, Racer X explains that he was taught to drive mountain roads by Kabala. Once Racer X had learned the secrets of mountain driving from Kabala, in a race in the mountains, Racer X and Kabala were driving close together when Kabala's car was caught in a landslide. Racer X decided to assume the deceased Kabala's identity to protect the treasure of Kapetepek.
Speed asserts Racer X's reasons for being in the race were silly. Speed is only interested in winning and he'll do his best to win. No proponent for world peace is our dear friend Speed.
Meanwhile, at the finish line, Spritle nearly causes an international incident when he tries to get a closer view of the tunnel exit.
In the tunnel, the added weight of the stolen treasure causes Kadar's men to crash their cars. Kadar takes off satisfied that now he won't have to share any of the treasure.
Spritle lures a Kapetepekan youngster and charms the clothes off him with some candy. Disguised, Spritle and Chim Chim try to take part in a worship ceremony. But a tiny alligator bites Chim Chim on the butt. They are captured and Spritle is tied to a table as a knife-edged pendulum drops slowly towards him.
Kadar gets caught in a boiling mud pit and meets his end trying to save the treasure.
Meanwhile, Spritle is rescued by his Kapetepekan friend.
Near the finish line, Speed and Racer X are driving under a dinosaur skeleton. For some odd reason, Speed decides to run slalom through the ribs. As the tunnel closes, Speed and Kabala, who unknown to nearly everyone is secretly Racer X, who unknown to Speed is secretly his older brother Rex who ran away from home years ago, emerge with Speed winning. Chief Zuma's adjutant declares the race a tie. Chief Zuma still refuses to open the borders.
Speed gives the Chief and the Secretary-General a lecture in international relations. He notes that of 96 who started, only two finished. There's been more than enough trouble.
Chief Zuma suggests Speed and Kabala fight it out, but Racer X reveals that he's been masquerading as Kabala and suggests that Kapetepek open its borders some of the time. Chief Zuma agrees.
As the plane departs for the States, Speed says, "Some day, I'll come here again."
