Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

Season 1 Episode 1

Triumph Of The Green Goblin

Aired Saturday 10:30 PM Sep 12, 1981 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • The comic book version of Norman Osborn does not change into the Green Goblin like he did in the Spider-Man (1981) episode titled "Revenge of the Green Goblin", he simply puts on an outfit. Though he does share the cartoon Norman's penchant for forgetting things.

  • Quotes

    • Green Goblin (seeing the Spider-Friends arrive): The troublesome trio.

    • Green Goblin: You can't stop me! I have enough Goblin formula for New York, California, Washington...
Spider-Man (to Mona): Mona, I'd better stop him before he reaches Anaheim, Azuza, and Cucamonga!

    • Green Goblin: You're at the mercy of the real Green Goblin! And of course you know, I don't have any mercy!

    • Norman Osborne: Cured, Cured to being the Green Goblin...(turns into the Green Goblin)
Green Goblin:...Never (laughs), never (laughs again), never, the Goblin lives again (laughs again).

  • Notes

    • This episode was adapted into a one-shot comic book in December 1981.

    • Norman Osborne goes through a Dr. Jekyl and Mr.Hyde transformation in the beginning, which is funny considering the Green Goblin and Hyde characters are their dark sides.

    • Although the character Firestar was created to replace the Human Torch, her alter ego's design is based off another Marvel character: Mary Jane Watson.

    • The plot of Norman Osborne remembering he was the Green Goblin was taken from the Spider-Man (1981) episode, "Revenge of the Green Goblin" where Norman Osborne regains the memory of him being the Green Goblin in a train wreck. Here, it was a plane crash.

    • Some superhero outfits worn at the party included: Black Panther, Black Widow, Captain America, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Falcon, Hellcat, Hulk, Iron Man, Ka-Zar, Medusa, Ms. Marvel, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Phoenix, Power Man (??), Scarlet Witch, Shanna the She-Devil, Spider-Woman, Storm, Thing, Thor, Valkerie, Vision, Wasp, and Yellow Jacket.
