  • Quotes

    • Lizard: This story your telling me is unbelievable. And yet, here I am with my rational mind trapped in this lizard body. I'm with you. I'll help you with whatever way I can.
      Spider-Man: Thanks, Doc.

    • Beyonder: A most promising start. But there is still much to be done if Spider-Man is to survive destruction. Soon, Spider-Man will face his greatest horror in the Universe.

    • Spider-Man: We've always acted heroically because it was the right thing to do. Now, we can show this alien monstrosity-- the Beyonder-- what Earth people are really made of.

    • Beyonder: ...choose your game pieces wisely for your only chance to save this planet and return home is to lead the fight against evil... and win.

    • Madame Web: [about Spider-Man] He is the one. He alone can make the difference between existence and destruction. I wager that he may surprise you. Put him to the test.

  • Notes

    • The Secret Wars saga was a comic mini-series in 1984, it had continuty with the other Marvel series going on at the time though.

    • The Fantastic Four wears the new costumes they started using in the mid-90s, rather than their more classic uniforms with a '4' centered on their chest and either white or black gloves, collars, and boots. The Thing, however, is wearing calf-length pants, but no boots. The Thing is drawn looking very different - his face is more narrow, and he actually has a straight nose, as opposed to the knob it is usually drawn as. Also, Quinton Flynn was the only cast member from the '90s Fantastic Four cartoon to reprise his role.

    • The Hulk was originally supposed to be in the Secret Wars three parter, but couldn't because of his show on UPN. He was replaced by the Lizard, who changes sides near the end of the episode to help the good guys.

    • When Storm is preparing to charge the fortress' force field to protect against the worms, Spidey say "Go for it!", the catch-phrase from Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends.

  • Allusions

    • Episode Plot: Secret Wars
This three part episode is based off the Secret Wars mini-series where the Beyonder brings a number of superheroes and villains to "Battleworld", a planet he created in a distant galaxy. In the comics there were four factions. The Superhero faction which consisted of Captain America, Captain Marvel II, Hawkeye, Hulk, Human Torch, Iron Man (Jim Rhodes was substituting for Tony Stark at the time), Mister Fantastic, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman (Julia Carpenter), Thing, Thor, and Wasp. The Mutant faction consisted of Colossus, Cyclops, Lockheed the Dragon, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Rogue, Storm, and Wolverine. The Supervillain faction consisted of Absorbing Man, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, Enchantress, Kang the Conqueror, Klaw, Lizard, Molecule Man, Titania II, Ultron, Volcana, and the Wrecking Crew. Beyonder (when his powers were stolen by Doctor Doom) and Galactus represented their own side since they were both Cosmic Entities.

    • Madame Web: Are you afraid? You will be, Spider-Man. You will be.
Madame Web's comments to Spider-Man echo the dialogue between Yoda and Luke when Luke began Jedi training. - "I'm not afraid". "You will be. You will be".
