The Alien Costume (3)
AIRED:

The Kingpin is furious at Spidey and sends the Shocker and later the Rhino out to finish him off with the aid of another new invention of Alistair Smythe. Meanwhile, Eddie Brock, as the symbiote creature Venom, is busy playing cat and mouse with Spider-Man, intruding on Peter's private life and making it clear he knows the web-slinger's secret identity. Peter soon realizes that the pumped-up Eddie as Venom is stronger than he is. Worse than that: Spidey's spider-sense doesn't work around him!

Right so venom was done perfect he was badass in every way.

He even said the best quote ever in the whole of the series:

  • The conclusion to the awesome Venom Saga.

    9.5
First of all, as anyone who will watch this episode will notice, the animation is nowhere as good as in the previous episodes. This becomes clear when we finally get to see Venom, who needed two episodes of prologue before he actually appeared on the show. His black costume looked nothing like it looked when Peter was wearing it. In the first two episodes, the black suit looked awesome. Now, not so good. Venom looked really, really bad. But he was still a threat to both Spidey and Peter Parker.

The story was amazing. Venom now knows who Spidey is, and thanks to all the hate he has inside of him directed towards both Spider-man and Peter Parker, he is the strongest villain Spidey has faced so far. Probably that is why he wasn't used as much as he could have been on the show. Having him as an ultimate super villain for Spidey every single episode wouldn't have had the same effect.

Speaking animation wise, this episode is not as good as the previous two, but still a good episode nevertheless. Seeing Spidey being afraid of Venom was brilliant, and his fight with Venom was a decent ending to this superb story arc. Having two brilliant episodes to back it up, this conclusion is a good one, even though if only the animation would have been the one with we have gotten used to, this episode would have been outstanding as well.

Introducing Venom on the show and changing his comic book origin to this new (and really better) one, was a really smart move. However, the animation sadly wasn't as good as the prologue had. This really affected the episode, but it is good that the great back story kept it "alive". It would have been a shame is a story this good would have had a bad ending.

The ending is good, with Spidey wondering if he will ever have to face Venom again, and if he will have the same luck he had this time. Seeing Venom's head appearing on the moon at night was a nice touch, and sort of frightening. Only if the animation would have been better, the scene would have been terrifying.

Overall a good episode, and a nice ending to the Venom Saga. Even if not as good as the first two parts, one will of course watch it to see the conclusion to the story. You might be disappointed by the level of animation, but the story will definitely impress you.moreless
  • In this episode, we see Venom for the first time. He's the greatest challange for spider-man yet! This is just a fantastic episode.

    10
In the previous episode, we saw Spider-man getting rid of the symbiote. However, if falls on Eddie Brock, who, as we all know, turns into Venom. The symbiote gives him great powers. Venom is by far my favorite spider-man villain. Venom seems to be able to do everything that spider-man can, like web-shooting and wall-crawling. At the end of the episode, spider-man says that Venom was his strongest opponent, seems very true to me. At one point, he finds spider-man fighting agains Rhino and the Shocker. He takes the two out like nothing, because he wants to "play" with spider-man himself. I just love those scenes with Venom. Venom says straight on that spider-man is Peter Parker. I don't really know how he knows all of a sudden. Maybe because the symbiote was on spider-man first. Just like spider-man's spider-sense doesn't get triggered when Venom appears. Spider-man guesses it's because the symbiote was on him first. This makes Venom even more dangerous. All together, one of the best episodes of the series.moreless

  • NOTES (5)

    • This was adapted into comic book format in Spider-Man Adventures #10. It was later reprinted in Spectacular Spider-Man (UK Magazine) #5.

    • Venom becomes the first villain to find out Spider-Man's identity in the series.

    • In the comics, Venom first made a cameo appearance in Amazing #298, then was seen fully in #299, and his first full appearance was the double-length Amazing #300 - a classic issue. In this, Venom attacked Mary Jane and the two were frightened into moving. Spidey finally defeated Venom after realizing that its webbing came from its own body and made Venom run out of his "webbing" so that the symbiote would be temporarily weakened. Also, Venom's costume was completely identical to Spidey's black one with the exception that he could make a mouth, but that was an ordinary mouth. It wasn't until his second appearance until Venom had the costume we have all come to know and love. Although, the tongue trick wasn't added for quite a while until Amazing #362 in the middle of Carnage's first storyline.

    • In the comics, Eddie Brock was an obsessive weight lifter. Because of this, after bonding with the symbiote, he was actually stronger than Spider-Man.

    • Venom makes his first animated appearance in a Spider-Man cartoon.
