Of all four Spiderman cartoons I've seen, I think this is the most adult*.
*If you ignore the silly soap-opera the main characters are always playing. That's not adult.

You've got some swearing, some death, real guns (with real bullets), as well as your standard comic book violence. Mostly the death makes this Spiderman hardcore. In the original animated series, nobody died (except Ben); there were vortexes and close-calls, but nothing terminal. They didn't include Gwen Stacy because they knew they'd have to kill her. Offhand, they've killed Dr. Connor, a few cop/security guards, Electro Boy (at least once, maybe twice), Electro Boy's frat brother, they poisoned Mary Jane in a dream sequence..

Anyway, people die, so this Spiderman is a bit more.. (realistic?) .. than other Spiderman cartoons.

This show is great though i wouldn't recommend it to anyone under 12(they just couldn't be able to handle it unless very mature). This Spiderman show is probably for an audience around 13-18(maybe up to 21).

The only ting I didn't like about the series, is how it was basically a big plug for Nokia cell phones. But hey, they had to capture the lifestyles of your typical young adult these days; drinking mochas and talking on cell phones. Remember when peter used to be a REAL GEEK, with no sex appeal or fashion sense?

yes it's the most adult cartoon but IMO one of the worst Spidey cartoons. Adult content doesn't mean good quality.

The MTV Spiderman show was bloody brillant! The animation was absolute eye candy, so fluent and sleek. The voice was incredible some of the best in any animated show ever. It was very theatrical, almost like a radio play. You can listen to it without a picture and be entertained. Finally the stories were really good. It didn't really depend on super villians to get your attention. It was very adult, and really stood apart from any other spidey interpretation. Great show, shame it didn't last...

I really liked this one and was somewhat perturbed that there was no season 2. I want to find out what happens!

On wikipeida it says the reason it was like this was to target teen viewers.

Yea and I think they did a good job, it's a shame it was canceled.

it was better than Spider-man unlimited but it was still pretty bad. But I think the show had potential it was all MTV's fault the show failed with their ridiculous guidelines if this show aired on Adult swim it probably would have done better and if didn't decide to follow the movie which limited them badly

Yeah, how about 11? That's how old I was when I got my hans on this, and I loved it. Well, 11 or 12.

Just because you add adult content to a story which would otherwise be kid friendly doesn't make it mature.

Now the finale actually has a mature story, but the rest are Saturday morning tales with profanity and gore.

Now The Spectacular Spider-Man is mature. Character growth and well told stories. Besides, I didn't see this cartoon doing a drug story.
