I think Mike was more of a realistic political character ... the comparisons to Stephanopolous are pretty obvious. His character was more frenetic, and you could almost see his mind working in a number of ways -- except when he was dealing with his love life, he seemed to be always trying to think a step ahead politically. I think the Charlie character was different in that he was much more jaded, and seemed to be more concerned with covering his own butt in the present than in the chess match aspect.

The show started its slide when Heather Locklear joined the cast and went into a free-fall when Charlie Sheen had to replace Michael J Fox. I like Charlie Sheen (he's great in Two and a Half Men) but I dont think anyone could replace what Michael J Fox brought to the show.

Charlie sheen is the worlds biggest pervert. He just looks so slimmy. And every time he plays some character it is always a scumbag who loves his ladies. If he weren't famous he would be one of those 40 year old guys who goes to clubs and hits on teenage girls.

Michael J fox was Marty McFly. Nuff said.

Well, since the Back to the Future movies are high on my list of favorite movies, I think my choice is fairly obvious, but I also thought that Charlie Sheen's episodes were good.

It's funny that Charlie Sheen started out in a couple of preachy movies (Red Dawn, Platoon) and has come to be regarded primarily as sort of a Good Time Charlie. In "Platoon," in particular, his character is supposed to represent the innocent soul corrupted, or at least changed, by war ... it's hard to imagine him in that role now. He'd have to be a horny supply sergeant or something.

To me it seems like a completely different show after Mike leaves. It has the same set up, the same actors (minues a few) and the same set up, but it's an entirely different show. Spin City Seasons 1-4 was about Mike. That was Mike's show. Spin City Seasons 5-6 are more about the remaining cast. Once you can get over that hump and stop comparing the two, then I think it's easier to appreciate the last 2 seasons. I still prefer Mike over Charlie (and I hate Heather Locklear!), but I can appreciate the final 2 seasons.

What I don't understand is why both people used there

actual first names and a different last name. I thought

when someone stars in a TV show there character has a

    different first and last name.

Charlie Sheen uses a different last name in Two and a Half

Men and that's all. I seriously don't understand why some

    actors do that.

Its not their choice that just happens to be thier character names.

A couple shows feature the main character who shares his name with the actor.  Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld) did that.  Home Improvement fits along this show's lines and has the main character named Tim (different last name).

Without a doubt, Mike...Charlie wasn't even close when it came to raw comedic talent. Mike really carried the show.

It's gotta be Mike. Although I like Charlie a lot (and when I first saw the show, it was Season Six and so Charlie was the only one I knew) when I saw the earlier episodes with Mike I immediately preferred him. With Charlie the show was never as good, but still an excellent show. I'm glad they carried on after Mike left, it was better than nothing. And it was certainly better than a lot of other crap around at the time.

My favorit is clearly Michael J. Fox even though i really like Two And A Half Men that's also because i think Charlie Sheen wasn't ment to be a actor in this show but he was ment to be in Two And A Half Men was there even a doubt that he should be on that show. So to cut a long story short don't get into a show were you wasn't ment to be in the first place.
