Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Too many bad musical numbers.

Enough said, and the Plankton just being there is also bad. Back in the movie,he was a real villain, but here,he's just there for no reason.
  • 28th Worst Episode

Okay, so it's not the WORST episode of SpongeBob. I'd rather be annoyed than disturbed. But boy, this episode is up on the list. The songs are forced and some of the worst on the show. The logic absolutely makes no sense. The Atlanteans look hideous, and Atlantis itself looks nothing like the Atlantis we expected. There is almost no plot here, since it's taken up mostly by songs. And since when was Sandy the only person who could fight? This is the second-worst special this show has to offer. I hate it even more than "Truth or Square" or "The Clash of Triton".moreless
  • Bad but not as bad as people say it is

The songs are horrible. So is this episode.

  • The WORST SpongeBob episode ever made.

Okay, from a lot of reviews of watched (even the MoBrosStudios review on YouTube), I've heard this cheaped out a bunch of viewers by giving them a bunch of bad musical numbers. The musical numbers is what made this episode not just annoying, but BLAND, UNCREATIVE, AND BORING. Not only that, but the king of Atlantis, instead of King Neptune, we get some blueberry-colored-ginger-crown-wearing loser named Lord Royal Highness . Seriously. Also, what's wrong with the art design? I mean, when the tank shoots out the strawberry ice cream, the nozzle suddenly goes to this phase where it looks like if you're playing a flash game and you set the quality to "low". No joke. Back when I was about 5 or 6, I thought this was an okay episode. Boy, was I wrong!moreless
  • I Don't Understand the Vehement Hate.

This is by no means an excellent episode, but I don't understand what bothers people to no end about this. It IS a lot like Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and yes, David Bowie didn't get to sing at all. Besides that, there really aren't too many flaws.

The music is all right; I've heard better from Spongebob, but it isn't terrible. The plot is a bit scattered and repetitive but it all does make some sense. My only problems are the aforementioned repetitive plot, which can become a bit irritating towards the end. The only other issue I have is the fact that the climax came out of NOWHERE. The resolution to the climax was equally as sudden and crazy.

A good special? No, but I can't call it terrible in good conscience. I'm giving this episode a 5.5/10.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (20)

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Plankton: It shoots ice cream?

    • LRH: (about SpongeBob) I thought sponges were supposed to make life easier.

    • SpongeBob: Antis. What'd you think that means, Patrick?
Patrick: Antis. Antis! SquarePantis! Probably belongs to your ancient ancestors!

    • Sandy: Look out germs, the end is near, your days are numbered, cause Sandy's here! I'll get these germs, and make 'em pay, with some good old-fashioned Karate! HI YA! If I borrow some elements from the periodic table, I can mix up a brew that is sure to disable any virus, bug or sniffle, that steps into my path, and make them feel my microscopic wrath! HI YA!

    • Plankton's Weapon Song:

Plankton: (singing) Oh, what a beautiful sight
Weapons as the far as the eye can see
But which will be right for me?
      How do I pick?
Which one can do the trick?
Which is the best to guarantee eternal rest?
      So many weapons,
      Which will I choose?
Look at this one; With a beautiful fuse.
      And with this one,
      I couldn't lose.
That one would surely give them the blues!
And this one matches my shoes!
Come on Plankton, just pick one and forget about your shoes!
      Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Mo,
      I pick you,
      Now let's go!

    • Squidward's Art Song:

      Squidward: (singing) Isn't this great?
      Isn't this neat?
I'm a living work of art
From my head to my feet
From the very first drawings on walls in caves
Art has been what the heart and soul crave!
So pick up a brush, pencil, or pen
If you don't like this one,
      Paint it again!
From now one, please call me Sir Real [surreal]
I can wait for your impression to congeal
Take it from an undersea Renaissance man
I'd even look good on the sign on your van!
      Anyway you cut it,
I am art and art is me
      Ask your mama
      Or your dada
To tell you about the schism
      Between minimalism,
      and cubism!
My personality maybe of the cynical type
But I finally found what lives out to the hype!
      I can say honestly,
      I'm a great certainty!
That Atlantis is where I want to spend eternity!

    • Plankton: Prepare to taste my wrath! I said prepare to taste my wrath! (cannon fires)
Patrick: Plankton's wrath tastes like ice cream.
      SpongeBob & Patrick: Thanks, Plankton!
Plankton: Ice cream, it shoots ice cream! Oversized ice cream maker!

    • SpongeBob: Patrick, did you hear something?
Patrick: Kinda like a popping sound?
      SpongeBob: Yeah.
(SpongeBob and Patrick turn around and see the bubble has popped)
      SpongeBob & Patrick: AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
(their skin peels, leaving their skeletons)

    • (everyone screams)
      Squidward: Hey, look, it's Atlantis!
      SpongeBob: Pretty!
      (everyone screams again)

    • (the bus stops)
Squidward: You idiots haven't been here for 2 minutes, and you've already ruined someone's topiary garden!

    • Sandy: Hold on there, little buddy!
      (dodgeballs hit SpongeBob)
      SpongeBob: It tickles!

    • Lord Royal Highness: Seize these hostile bubble poppers!
(guards chase SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy)

    • SpongeBob: (singing) The sun must set
At the end of every day
      And the curtain must fall
At the end of every play
And every little bubble ever blown
      Must someday pop
Patrick: (singing) Like presents on Christmas Day
      It doesn't seem to stay
      Or a cheese soufflé
      It doesn't last all day
      SpongeBob: (singing) I will try
      Again (Try again)
To blow a bubble (To blow a bubble)
      That will last all day
(Try to blow a bubble that will last)
      Patrick: (singing) All day

    • Mr. Krabs: Hello, there. Welcome to the museum. That'll be $3.
Old Lady: But I thought it was Free Tuesday.
Mr. Krabs: Oh, no, no, no. Today's Monday. Otherwise, I wouldn't be wearing this "I Hate Mondays" shirt.
Old Lady: Good point. (gives Mr. Krabs $3)
Mr. Krabs: Enjoy the artifacts. Don't stay in one place too long. People might mistake you for one.

    • Squidward: (about SpongeBob and Patrick) You boobs found the missing half of the Atlantean amulet?!
      SpongeBob: What's an Atlantean omelet?
      Squidward: Amulet, not omelet!

    • SpongeBob: Behold, Patrick! The world's oldest living bubble!

  • NOTES (26)

    • The red, spiky enemy in the video game scene is possibly a reference to the enemy called Spiny in the Super Mario series.

    • Sistine Chapel
During Squidward's song, there's a picture of him in a cloud and another squid reaching for him, which is a parody of Leonardo Da Vinci's Sistine Chapel.

    • Squidward was in many famous pictures like Creation of man and Dalis' picture of melting clocks. The part where jumped through paintings were probably from Harry Potter.

    • Yellow Submarine

The drawing of the people from Atlantis is very similar to the drawings on The Beatles' movie Yellow Submarine.

    • Lord Royal Highness
The Atlantians, particularly Lord Royal Highness, look very similar to the Blue Meanies from the Beatles' film, Yellow Submarine.

    • Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: (Film - 1971)
This episode has an unbelievable amount of references to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

The tour given through Atlantis is very similar to that given through the Chocolate Factory.

The Lord Royal Highness is very similar to Willy Wonka in a few ways. 1, he guides the tour. 2, the way he talks. 3, he walks around with a cane. And 4, he holds himself above the others.

The way the story unfolds throughout the tour is very similar as well, as one person leaves the tour at a time, just like how the kids misbehave and end up out of the tour.

The 'New Technology' that Sandy is thrilled about is very similar to all of Willy Wonka's new inventions.

The explanation of the 'Germ Warrior' is almost identical to that of Wonkavision. Describing how SpongeBob's particles were separated and floating about, until it shrunk him down to fight the bacteria.

The way that the tank shoots out Ice Cream, and the object morpher turns everything to ice cream is similar to how everything in the Chocolate Factory is candy.

And lastly, the most prized possession of Atlantis is the Longest Living Bubble, which is very similarly shaped and sized to look like the Everlasting Gobstopper, which is Wonka's most prized possession. And both appear to go on forever, the life of the bubble, and the taste of the candy.

    • Video Game Parodies
In Sandy's video game sequence, there are three parodies:

      Dance Dance Revolution (aka DDR)
      Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble
      Super Mario Bros.
and finally, Paramount Pictures Screen Songs and Ko-Ko's Song Cartunes cartoon/short film series produced by Max Fleischer until 1938 and revived in 1945 by Famous Studios, complete with the bouncing ball and hyphens on the lyrics.
