  • Ghost Host was mediocre but Chips Ahoy was decent

    7.5
The score is for Chips Ahoy. Ghost Host gets a 5.
  • Superb pairing

    9.0
The rating is somewhat lower compared to the last time I reviewed a SB episode (which was three days ago). Also, ever since this episode, I now know how to tune in an episode when they premiered (because I checked on Wiki and a tv guide website) and I hardly missed any of those (expect 8 times from this point to today).

Chimps Ahoy: A very superb episode. This episode was just not my favorite and a couple parts were getting boring. The funny parts are SpongeBob using the back scratcher, then Patrick is actually using SpongeBob's hands, the peanut/nut cracker invention, SpongeBob and Patrick trying to make an invention while Patrick kept trying to make one that is always been made, then SpongeBob's reflection said "Well, I always thought it was a great idea," Patrick being called as Mr., Dr., Professor Patrick, one of the chimp being in their invention, and a couple more parts. Score: 9/10

Ghost Host: This one was superb as well but it not as funny as Chimp Ahoy. This episode was very creppy to watch on a few scenes like Dutchman turning into 4 different creatures and scaring Squidward. That especially the first one was way beyond creepy. Funny moments include the flying Dutchman falling off his ship, the Flying Dutchman trying to scare SpongeBob, but then he isn't scared anymore (this scared him like 3 times then a couple times later, he is bored of it), the power with in video, the mattress store part, Dutchman having a party at SpongeBob's house, and the Flying Dutchman scaring Squidward near the end. After the part part, it got a little boring to watch. Score 9/10moreless
  • What the acutal f*ck?

    1.0
What ever happening to the Spongebob I knew and loved while growing up?

Let me begin with some back story. I was bored during my awesome desk job at a local gym (where I'm the #1 employee of which everyone looks up to). I decided to put on Spongebob after my workout, a friendly, lovable series that I grew up with, all while eating some delicious protein packed oatmeal sludge (many say it looks like throw up, but it's completely awesome).

As I prepared myself to enjoy a half hour of one of the best cartoons of all time, the horror sunk in when sh*t started to get a little weird. I don't know what was going on at the Spongebob headquarters during 2006, but I can only imagine it was drugs. A whole bunch of drugs. Hardcore, LSD/acid type of drugs. This episode broke the PG barrier and most likely ruined a lot of little kids lives. It was sick and twisted, and should not have been shown on TV. It even gave me nightmares, and I'm a 23 year old ALPHA MALE. You are the sole reason why people have been turning to bath salts and eating faces. Are you happy now!?

    Good day to you sir.moreless

  • Ghost Host: Yuck! Chimps Ahoy: Pretty Good.

    6.7
    Ghost Host:

This episode knocked the score from a 9 to a 6, and you may be wondering why. Well, it was completely weird, and disgusting. The Power Within part was so pointless and made no sense, and when Dutchy haunted Squidward at the end, that was completely disgusting. This terror of an episode is about The Flying Dutchman's ship breaking, and him living at SB's house, where he haunts SpongeBob. But before long, SB stops becoming scared of him. And after he can't scare anyone, he thinks he isn't scary anymore, so SB helps him become scary again. It would be OK if it wasn't so disgusting.

Grade: F- (Yes, it was slightly worse than All That Glitters)

    Chimps Ahoy:

Why did they air so many good episodes with bad ones? This one aired with Ghost Host, Wishing You Well aired with All That Glitters, and Sing A Song Of Patrick aired with Waiting. I don't understand it. In this episode, Sandy's bosses, the chimps, are coming and she has to show them a good invention before she has to leave Bikini Bottom. So, Patrick and SpongeBob help her invent something. It was funny, and weird, but it was pretty good.

    Grade: A

Chimps Ahoy wasn't painful to watch, but Ghost Host was. So, the classification only counts for one episode. Curse you Ghost Host!!

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • How is it possible that the Flying Dutchmen made SpongeBob's house on fire? They're underwater.

    • When Sandy was singing, she says that she will miss the birds that fly. But the "bird" was really a sting-ray. And besides, shouldn't she have said "scallop" instead of "bird"?

    • When Spongebob first began to make an invention, he just simply went straight to the table and started inventing. Before ANYONE starts making an invention, they need to make plans, create hypothesises, draw drafts, etc... No wonder he gave up so soon!

    • In "The Camping Episode", Spongebob stated that sea bears were highly attracted to the screeching of chimpanzees. So why didn't a sea bear come when the chimps screeched after finding the banana peeling invention?

    • Why was there an eagle and a rooster in the video that SpongeBob showed the Flying Dutchman? They're underwater.

    • Right before we see Squidward get scared by the Flying Dutchman, we see him put his slippers on. When he gets scared, we see his feet in the air with the slippers off.

    • When Squidward is having the conversation with the apparition of his mother, his teeth can be seen changing color from white to yellow.

    • Goof: In "Chimps Ahoy!," Lord Reginald alternates between being bald and having hair combed in the middle.

    • When Sandy says she can't make any inventions, and her inventions are useless, why doesn't she use the transporter from SquidBob TentaclePants, the De Seperator thing from that episode and her rocket from Sandy's Rocket and various other inventions she made?

    • Why didn't Squidward believe in ghosts? He met the Flying Dutchman several times before, and he's a ghost.

    • When SpongeBob's laughing at the end, the closed captions indicate that he's screaming.

    • When the Dutchman is at Spongebob's he's fat. But after He puts on his clothes, he is thin again. No longer fat.

    • When Patrick and Spongebob work on the invention, it is night time. But then, it's daytime outside, And Spongebob says to Patrick "You know, the thing we worked on all afternoon." when it should have been "you know, the thing we worked on all night."

    • Sponge Bob and Patrick get a back scratcher from the mail box, in front of his house. But when they start walking toward Squidward's home the mail box is gone.

    • SpongeBob sends in 52 boxtops to get a Goofy Goober back scratcher.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Sandy: (so long bikini bottom)
      So long bikini bottom
I cant leave without a good bye
But please don`t think bad of me
Even if I start to cry
      So long bikini bottom
There is so many things I`ll miss
      From your small, decrowded city
To your stinging jellyfish (stings Patrick in the butt)
This town is filled with many things
that I have come to love
From the birds that fly upon the ground
      to the flowers up above
      Farewell bikini bottom
Now I really hate to go
Cause the things I`ll miss the most of all
are the friends I have come to know

    • Patrick: Step right up! (points at Lord Reginald) You look like you've been neglecting your personal hygene!
      Lord Reginald: Me?

    • Flying Dutchman: I love me a good snail.

    • Flying Dutchman: Oh, yes, we have so much in common. You like teddy bears? I like teddy bears. You like ponies? I like ponies.
Fish: Is that a wedding ring?
Flying Dutchman: Oh, this? Oh, it's nothin'.

    • Patrick: Mr. Doctor, Professor Patrick, for you.

    • Patrick: SpongeBob, guess what I invented. It's a device that writes and erases. (holding up a pencil)
SpongeBob: That's a pencil, Patrick, it's already been invented.
Patrick: Oh. (goes back to work then comes back) SpongeBob, I've invented a glass ball that lights up. (holding up a lightbulb)
      SpongeBob: Lightbulb, already invented.
Patrick: Darn. (goes back to work and comes back) SpongeBob, I know this will work. I've invented a parallel universe. (holding up a mirror)
SpongeBob: That's a mirror, Patrick, it's already been invented.
Patrick: (growls and walks away) Somebody keeps stealing my ideas.
SpongeBob-in-Mirror: Well, I thought it was a pretty good idea.

    • SpongeBob: What's this? (points at a helmet)
Sandy: It's a helmet. It lets you talk to nuts.
(SpongeBob pulls out a peanut from his pocket)
SpongeBob: SpongeBob to Peanut, come in Peanut.
      Patrick: Whats it saying?
SpongeBob: It says... it's dark in here. Got anything else, Sandy?
Sandy: Here's my nutachino machine. (takes SpongeBob's peanut and puts into the machine to make fresh nutachino)
      Peanut: AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
      (SpongeBob takes the helmet off)

    • SpongeBob: Onward, to Squidward's house!
      Squidward: Go away!
      SpongeBob: To Sandy's house!

    • Flying Dutchman: AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Elderly Lady: Honey, is that you?
Flying Dutchman: What?! No, it's me! The Flying Dutchman!
Elderly Lady: Honey, there's a brand new product called toothpaste. You might want to try it.

    • Sandy: Will this bus take you somewhere when you've got nowhere else to go?
Bus Driver: Sure does! We make stops at Quitterville, Failuretown, and Loserburg!

    • SpongeBob & Patrick: It's here!
      (they open up package)
SpongeBob: The official Goofy Goober Backscratcher! And it only cost me 52 boxtops. (starts using it on his back)
      SpongeBob: Ohhhhh! OOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!
Patrick: Let me try! Ohhhhh! AAAAHHHHH!!!!
SpongeBob: Patrick, that's not the backscratcher, that's my hand.
      Patrick: Oh. Sorry.

    • Video: The power within...The power within...(repeating)

  • NOTES (27)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Ghost Host: Beetlejuice
Many of the Flying Dutchman's scares are reminiscent of Beetlejuice's pranks (e.g. spinning his head about, making disgusting faces).

    • When Patrick said he invented the lightbulb which was already invented, this is a reference to Thomas Edison who invented the lightbulb.

    • Ghost: The Lion King
When Squidward's mother appears as a giant ghost (not in cloud form), in his room to speak to Squidward is a reference to the film The Lion King, where Simba's father, Mufasa, appeared as a giant cloud ghost in the sky to speak to Simba.

    • Episode Title: Chimps Ahoy!
A parody of a brand of cookies, Chips Ahoy!
