  • Not only is it one of the best SpongeBob episodes, it's the best Christmas special.

    10
When Sandy tells SpongeBob about Christmas, he tells everyone in Bikini Bottom about it and everyone wants to write a letter to Santa except Squidward. The episode is really funny and very heartwarming. It's not just one of the best SpongeBob episode, it's not just the best SpongeBob special, but it's also the best Christmas special. It is much better than the new SpongeBob Christmas special and I will watch this episode every year when Christmas is coming.moreless
  • 5th best spongebob episode

  • Well, at least they tried

    5.5
The first Spongebob special. It seemed as if it was going to be charming, but it was just a tad below average. The worst part was Patchy. They should have never involved him in Spongebob specials. It just ruins the special. They spend 5-10 minutes with Patchy the first part. And guess what, when it officially started, it was already 8-10 minutes in and the special is only 1/2 an hour. What a waste of time. They actually go back to Patchy way before the special ends(5-10 minutes before it ended), which means that the cartoon part was the time a regular episode will last(about 10-12 minutes) and they spend the rest on Patchy. The cartoon part was actually good, but Patchy's part was just bad. Definitely below average because of Patchy. He makes it sound like a boring documentary. 5.5/10moreless
  • At least its better than the first one!

Hey, this one is waaaay better than the new stop animation one. I mean "Jerktonium". yep. thats DEFENATLY funny. I like the first one :) its rlly funny lol!
  • This Special shouldn't've existed. Take it back and give me 30 precious minutes I wasted! There were some good parts, but this is not a good special.

    4.0
I personally did not enjoy this special. Sorry, I just did not find it that amusing.

I love the show and all, but Christmas just isn't their thing. Maybe it should've stayed away from Bikini Bottom.

The characters were out of place, except Mr. Krabs, who I liked in this episode. There were some clever jokes and puns here and there, but I did not enjoy it.

Well, sorry, folks. I give it a 4. Maybe it just wasn't what I expected.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (20)

    • Since Squidward was so anti-Christmas and couldn't have been bothered to deal with the holiday, why would he have bothered to get a Santa suit? More importantly, where would he have gotten it in two minutes?

    • In "The Secret Box", Patrick's secret is revealed to be "That embarrassing snapshot of SpongeBob at the Christmas party". Presumably, this is the picture that Squidward took of a heartbroken SpongeBob after Santa failed to arrive.

    • After this episode, Squidward misses the next 6 episodes: "Survival of the Idiots," "Dumped," "No Free Rides," "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic," "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III" and "Squirrel Jokes."

    • Sandy is responsible for bringing Christmas to Bikini Bottom, but oddly, she's not seen in the rest of the episode.

    • In the episode "Jellyfishing," SpongeBob said "Welcome home, Squidward!" Then, Patrick said "Merry Christmas!"

This might seem like a goof, since "Jellyfishing" aired before this episode. However, the majority of this episode is a flashback so it could've actually taken place anytime between the first episode and "Jellyfishing."

    • If you look closely at the bunch of bottles on the surface, you can see Patrick's ripped paper is there throughout the whole scene.

    • If all sea creatures are small, how did Santa get a small enough paper for Squidward to read, in addition to the small writing, since humans are bigger?

    • Oddly enough, this episode has aired in weird months, including October.

    • When Squidward is reading his thank-you note from Santa, the purple cloud in the background is really long. In the next shot, when the note disappears, the cloud is wider and shorter.

    • The way the little puff-ball at the end of Squidward's Santa hat keeps changing. First, there's one open loop, then all closed loops, then three slightly open loops, and so on.

    • In the beginning, when Patchy is reading the address of the letter, a dubbed voice says, "Name and address withheld" and then the same thing on the inside at the bottom. People don't normally put their address at the bottom of the letter, so shouldn't it just have said "Name withheld?"

    • When Squidward tells SpongeBob that he doesn't have a letter at the machine part, the fish behind SpongeBob is wearing a black shirt. When Squidward sees the big line in front of his door, the same guy, whom moves his eyebrows, now has a white shirt.

    • When Squidward says, "I feel like a... I feel like a...", a donkey appears - which may mean that he feels like a "jackass."

    • When Patchy tries getting the tape and ribbon off his hook, he pulls too hard and accidentally punches himself in the eye and gets a black eye and puts his eyepatch on it. Later, when Patchy is reading the fan letter, he takes off his eyepatch and puts on his eyeglasses and his eye isn't black anymore.

    • Since Christmas is in winter, shoudn't Sandy have been hibernating?

    • When Patrick takes his role as the star on the top of the Christmas "tree," he is not on top for the rest of the episode after the commercial break!

    • When Spongebob is writing his letter, he is writing with his right hand, but when he is writing Squidwards letter, he was writing with his left hand.

    • At the beginning, watch Patchy's hook on his hand. It switches from left to right about 4 times

    • When Squidward sings "Spongebob, take this stuff down immediately" Spongebob's house is missing.

    • In the scene when the the town starts singing "Santa's coming tonight" Jimmy (the fish w/ no nose) looks normal but in the morning scene we Jimmy he's orange! Also he had diffrent clothes.

Mr. Krabs: (with girly voice) ...very first Christmas to meeee!

    • (SpongeBob hands Patrick a piece of paper)
Patrick: But there's no words on it.

    • (Squidward laughing at SpongeBob)
SpongeBob: I still want you to have this.
      Squidward: Wh-what's this?
SpongeBob: A present. I didn't want you to feel left out when.... SANTA CAME!!!
      Squidward: Oh, well- I...I-
      Spongebob: You're welcome.
      (SpongeBob starts walking away slowly)
Squidward: SpongeBob? He made me a present? (laughs) It's probably a jellyfish net, or an old Krabby Patty or... His favorite underpants!

    • SpongeBob: And everyone pretends to like the fruit cake.
      Squidward: Yawn.

    • Potty the Parot: SQUAK!!! I'm being held here against my will!

    • Squidward: Mashed Potatoes for you!
Woman: Just what I wanted! (puts mashed potatoes on head) A new hair style!

    • SpongeBob: What did you wish for?
Patrick: (gives SpongeBob a bottle with a ripped sheet of paper) A new piece of paper!

    • Patchy the pirate: Three bells! Do you know what that means?
      Kids: Free Ice cream!
Patchy: No, ya silly livers....ha ha....NO!

    • Spongebob: What did you wish for Mr. Krabs?
      Mr. Krabs: A pony.
      Spongebob: Really?
Mr. Krabs: With saddlebags full of money!

    • Spongebob: (Seeing Sandy's tree covered with lights) Fire!

    • Christmas Choir: Santa's coming, tonight, tonight, Santa's coming tonight, Santa's com-
SpongeBob: Hey everybody! Let's sing till Santa gets here!
Christmas Choir: (Cheering) Santa's coming tonight, tonight, Santa's coming tonight, Santa's coming tonight, tonight, Santa's coming tonight- (Fades out and shows main island)
Christmas Choir: (Weakly and sleepily) Santa's coming, tonight... tonight... Santa's coming... tonight-
      Guy: Hey where's Santa?!

    • SpongeBob: (talking to Squidward) Maybe Santa can send a dictionary to me so I can underdstand what he's saying.

    • SpongeBob: Don't worry, Squidward! I'll help you get started! (writes down) Dear Santa Claus...
      Squidward: SpongeBob! Forget it!
SpongeBob: You're right. Too formal. (writes down) Hi, Santa...
      Squidward: NO!!!!
      SpongeBob: Howdy Claus?

    • Patrick: He probably just stopped for a snack! Fat guys get hungry, right?

    • SpongeBob: Come on, Squidward! What do ya got to lose?
Squidward: My self-respect... my sanity... my lunch.

    • SpongeBob: But the best part is you can write a letter to this guy, Santa Claus, and tell him what you want and when he comes, he brings it to you!
Patrick: Just like a genie! Hahahahahaha!
Mr. Krabs: I don't know about you lubbers, but anybody who's giving away free stuff is a Friend O'Mine.
Squidward: Why do you want to celebrate a day where some guy breaks into your house and leaves presents?!
      Patrick: Like a genie!

    • SpongeBob: Who's Christmas? Is she a friend from Texas?
Sandy: I can't believe y'all ain't ever heard of... (big dreamy eyes) ... Christmas.
SpongeBob: Tell me more about this... (imitates Sandy) ... Christmas.

    • Patchy: Here's a letter from!
Some Guy: Name and Address withheld.

  • ALLUSIONS (6)

    • Super Mario Bros.

The egg Potty gives to Patchy looks similar to Yoshi's egg from Super Mario Bros.

    • Song: The Nutcracker

The song played on Squidward's wooden clarinet is "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from The Nutcracker.

    • The Nightmare Before Christmas
SpongeBob telling stories of Christmas and Santa Claus, and bringing Christmas to Bikini Bottom is just like what Jack Skellington did in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

    • Santa Claus: Outfit
The Santa Claus outfit that Squidward wore is the same thing as the Grinch wore with the no pants part. The other part of the outfit is the long white beard is the exact same as the one Jack used on his Santa Claus outfit.

    • Little Girl: Wish
The little girl's wish for front teeth could be a possible reference on Tiny Tim's "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth."

    • Santa Claus: Picture
The picture of Santa Claus SpongeBob shows to Mr. Krabs, Patrick, and Squidward is the official Santa for Coca-Cola.
