  • 200th vote! Hall Monitor good, Jellyfish Jam horrible.

    1.0
Hall Monitor: Great episode. Very classic, enough said. 10/10

Jellyfish Jam: Horrible episode. One of the worst of season 1. 0/10
  • kinda good for me

    8.0
it may not be the best pack of episode's of spongebob but it is entertaining and clever
  • Not the best season 1 episodes, but still good.

    8.0
Hall Monitor: When Mrs. Puff chooses SpongeBob to be the hall monitor of the day, SpongeBob gives a long acceptance speech. Because the bell rang, Mrs. Puff lets him wear the uniform until school started. SpongeBob then terrorizes the city because he thinks he can use his authorities outside of school. I thought it was a good episode. The part where Patrick and SpongeBob kept getting ice cream was funny and I also liked the part where Patrick is scared by the picture of the maniac.

Jellyfish Jam: When a jellyfish follows SpongeBob home, he decides to take care of it like a pet. My favorite parts of the episode is where SpongeBob talks like the french narrator and when he milks the jellyfish. I can understand why people wouldn't like these two episodes. They are not the best episodes of season 1, but I still thought they were pretty good.moreless
  • One of the Not-So-Good Season 1 Episodes.....

    3.5
Hall Monitor- This episode was good at one point. It was funny when Patrick kept suggesting to go buy ice cream. Or that scene when Mrs. Puff was annoyed by Spongebob's speech. But that's pretty much all the scenes that were funny. The rest of the episode was basically Spongebob scarring many innocent people with car crashes and being a maniac that destroyed half the city. The worst part of all is the ending. I mean, did Mrs. Puff REALLY have to go to jail? Unbelievable.

    Score: 5.2

Jellyfish Jam: Honestly, even worse than Hall Monitor. The only redeeming scene was the ending. Everything else was boring as hell. No jokes, basically just Spongebob dealing with some random garbage. And even the scene where Spongebob did music was getting old after countless airings of this episode. And that's another reason why these episodes are horrific. Nick used to air these two episodes like every single day. At first, I'd give it through a "7" to "5", but now since Nick made it get old, they get the lower scores. Thank god they stopped airing those two episodes much, at that rate, these could have gotten an even lower score than a few Season 5-6 episodes.

    Score: 2.5

Overall, these episodes get a 3.5 for being the worst pre-movie episodes.moreless
  • SpongeBob become hall monitor and jellyfish wrecks SpongeBob's house

    9.5
Hall Monitor-I liked/laughed the very beginning, SpongeBob making a speech, SpongeBob moving the traffic, Patrick thinking the ice cream is alive, SpongeBob and Patrick getting ice cream, Patrick freaking out about the maniac, and SpongeBob runs after founding out he's the maniac. It is not perfect because I thought some of the parts were boring. Overall score 9/10.

Jellyfish Jam-I liked/laughed SpongeBob as a stone, SpongeBob making the jellyfish as a bread, the jellyfish following SpongeBob, jellyfish doing stuffs in front of Squidward's house, SpongeBob dancing to the music, the jellyfishes at SpongeBob's house, Squidward playing the clarinet, the part with The music and the last part. Overall score 10/10moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (23)

    • During the pineapple shakes, the TV breaks. But in other episodes, it's fixed.

    • When SpongeBob and his jellyfish are first dancing, the radio lights are colored. In the next day, when SpongeBob's jellyfish and its friends are dancing, the radio light is white.

    • How did the person who made the wanted poster know SpongeBob was yellow if when he broke into the house he wore a mask that covered all of his non-clothed body? SpongeBob was also responsible for the boat wrecks that showed his yellow body.

    • When Mrs. Puff tries to give SpongeBob the hall monitor uniform, he says he won't accept it until he does his speech, but at the end of it, it was shown that he was already holding it before he finished.

    • In "Jellyfish Jam", and many other season 1 episodes, when you look directly at Squidward's house, it turns from a dark blue to a lighter shade of blue.

    • In "Hall Monitor," if he was on conch street, they could've seen SpongeBob's pineapple, Squidward's house, and Patrick's rock.

    • When Mrs. Puff asks is Spongebob is alright after being trampled by the other students, she appears standing in the door frame, but when the view zooms outward a few seconds later, she is standing beyond the reach of the door.

    • The word "Strawberries" is said with disdain in both episodes: SpongeBob says it as the hall monitor when he discovers strawberry ice cream spilled on the sidewalk, and Squidward says it after being jellied over the phone.

    • In Hall Monitor, Patrick tells SpongeBob that the maniac is on the intersection of Conch and Coral, though moments later when they show SpongeBob standing there, there is no intersection, just one street.

    • In "Jellyfish Jam," when SpongeBob is eating toast at the beginning, he takes 2 bites of it. Then, it disappears.

    • These episodes are on the SpongeBob SquarePants: Game Boy Advance Video Volume 2, along with the episodes "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy / Pickles."

    • In "Hall Monitor," Mrs. Puff said, "It's time to pick the Hall Monitor of the day." But when she's looking over the list of the names, she was referring to the week's Hall Monitor instead.

    • When SpongeBob Broke the fence, papers were scattered everywhere when he admitted to being the maniac, but when the Cops surround him, the papers disappear.

    • In "Hall Monitor," when SpongeBob breaks through the fence, the papers fly all over the place, and an upside down paper falls on SpongeBob. But when he sits up and looks at it, it appears to be on the correct side, and he never flipped it over.

    • When Patrick is talking to the policemen, he keeps switching from being on the path to the ice cream shop to being on the sand next to it.

    • If SpongeBob thinks leaving a window open makes you susceptable to danger, then why does he leave his window open throughout almost every other episode of the show?

    • When SpongeBob put his bathrobe on, it appeared out of nowhere.

    • You see that SpongeBob wears a green robe. Look carefully when he leans out the window. You see he's wearing his regular clothes. When he gets back in his house a few seconds later, he's back in his robe.

    • When Squidward is trying play his clarinet in Jellyfish Jam, he starts with his pink robe thing, then goes to his regular t-shirt, then back to his pajamas, then to his t-shirt.

    • When Mrs. Puff is calling of names for Hall Monitor, she says Jimmy (that fish with no nose) is in school, but in "Boating School" he said he just got his drivers license!

    • In the scene where two cops come up to Patrick to ask if he's seen the maniac, the brown cop's eyelids are green in one shot when they were supposed to be brown.

    • In "Hall Monitor," when Patrick dropped his ice cream, it was on the sand. But when they showed it up close, it was on the sand and on the street.

    • Squidward can hear A LOT of the noise in his house, but SpongeBob doesn't hear ANY noise, and the noise is right downstairs. So, wouldn't SpongeBob not be able to sleep if Squidward could hear it?

  • QUOTES (43)

    • Squidward: Eighteen hours! (picks up the phone and dials SpongeBob's number) I'm going to give that SpongeBob a piece of my mind! (jellyfish picks up the phone and Squidward yells) SpongeBob, listen to me, you square-headed assault on my ears, I've had enough of this! (jelly squirts through the phone onto Squidward) Strawberry. (Squidward plays his clarinet outside his window) Two can play at this! (plays his clarinet badly)

    • Gary: Meow.
SpongeBob: Quit worrying, Gary. He'll be just fine. Good night, everybody. (as he is sleeping, other jellyfish float inside the pineapple)
Gary: Meow. (gets squirted with jelly from all the jellyfish)

    • SpongeBob: (music stops) Wow, you sure like to dance. Well, that's enough for tonight. Time to go to bed.

    • SpongeBob: Well, we're going to my house to have a little fun.
Squidward: How can you possibly have fun with a jellyfish?

    • SpongeBob: Squidward! Look at my new pet!
Squidward: That's no pet, that's a wild animal.
SpongeBob: No he isn't! Watch this! (throws a stick so the jellyfish returns it. Spongebob is holding up three fingers) How many fingers am I holding up? (jellyfish buzzes three times) Play dead! (jellyfish is buried underground with a tomb that says "R.I.P.")

    • SpongeBob: Safety first. (SpongeBob captures a jellyfish) A-ha! I finally gotcha! (SpongeBob grabs a wooden stool and sits on it. Puts on a farmer hat and 'milks' the jellyfish. Jelly comes out and squirts on a piece of bread) Ah, there is nothing better than the taste of natural jelly from a jellyfish.

    • Narrator: Ah, Jellyfish Fields. Here we find SpongeBob once again stalking the wild jellyfish. SpongeBob? Hello? SpongeBob? Hmmm... he's supposed to be here somewhere… (narrator sees a square-shaped coral) A-ha! (jellyfish floats by, SpongeBob puts his glasses on)

    • Mrs. Puff: And in conclusion, red means stop, green means go. And SpongeBob?
      SpongeBob: Yes, Mrs. Puff?
Mrs. Puff: I would like to see you after class six months from now.

    • Patrick: The maniac is in the mailbox!

    • SpongeBob: Poor rookie. Alright, I'm on my way back.

    • SpongeBob: Hmmm... now you just need a symbol of authority. (Patrick puts the ice cream cone on his head) Perfect! It is our duty to catch this maniac and bring him to justice! But how to proceed?

    • SpongeBob: (reads paper) Maniac. Bikini Bottom? Car wreck? Break-in? Who better to bring this maniac to justice than me, the hall monitor! But I can't handle this case alone. Patrick, are you ready to give up your life of crime?
Patrick: (still crying) I wanna be good!

    • SpongeBob: On patrol. I'm on patrol. (notices a house with an open window) Uh-oh, an open window. (peeks through the window and there is a couple eating)
      Woman: More seaweed medley, dear?
SpongeBob: The fools. They've left themselves susceptible to danger.

    • SpongeBob: Broken traffic light! Who's to say my monitor duties should end just because the bell rang? I could be helpful anywhere! This looks like a job for the hall monitor! (directs traffic, with a whistle, to their destination using all sorts of hand gestures but ends up causing a huge wreck in the end) What would this town do without you, SpongeBob?
      Fred: My leg! My leg.

    • SpongeBob: Aww, tarter sauce. I guess I won't be needing this. (takes off his uniform) I hardly knew ya. (gives uniform to Mrs. Puff and walks away saddened)
      Mrs. Puff: Uhh...SpongeBob?
      SpongeBob: Yes, Mrs. Puff?
Mrs. Puff: I can at least let you wear it until tomorrow.

    • SpongeBob: Classmates!! Who am I to deserve such a great honor? Why, I would be nothing without Mrs. Puff.
Mrs. Puff: Give me a break.
SpongeBob: And to my public, all I can say is I'm touched. And furthermore, I will carry out my duties... (clock moves forward in time as SpongeBob continues his speech) ...crime and punishment, punishment and crime in the hall! (at this point, everyone is almost asleep) Which reminds me of an extremely long speech written by the greatest hall monitor of all time. (takes out a long roll of paper) "Friends, students, juvenile delinquents, lend me your ears." (the clock has disappeared, and it is now much later in the day. Mrs. Puff is asleep at her desk) In conclusion, and without a moment to spare, I will put on this uniform (takes out the hat and belt) and assume my duties as... (puts on the uniform) ...hall monitor! Wish me luck, Mrs. Puff! (walks towards the door then turns around) Oh, and I will be... (bell rings as all students run over SpongeBob)

    • SpongeBob: I can't accept that yet, ma'am. First I have to make my speech.
Mrs. Puff: You can't make this easy, can you?

    • SpongeBob: Yahoo! Hall monitor SpongeBob reporting for duty, ma'am! I am ready to assume my position...in the hall! I will protect all that are weak...in the hall! All rules will be enforced...in the hall!
Mrs. Puff: Okay! Just take the hat and belt. (tries handing him uniform)

    • Narrator: Mrs. Puff's Boating School. Where diligent students learn the rules of the road.
Mrs. Puff: Everyone, put down your books, because it's time to pick out the hall monitor of the day! (SpongeBob squeezes his pencil so hard it shoots up into the air) Let's see here. This week's hall monitor will be Bart, Jimmy, no, no, Tina, Ralph, mm... (gasps) ...SpongeBob. (SpongeBob moves his desk between 2 rows) It's Jimmy! Jimmy's the hall monitor.
Jimmy: Mrs. Puff, I've done it already! (SpongeBob moves his desk closer)
      Mrs. Puff: Ohh...Phil?
Phil: No way, Mrs. Puff. (SpongeBob moves his desk closer)
Mrs. Puff: Uhh, Tina, you're the hall monitor.
Tina: Hey, I've done it three times already! (SpongeBob moves up closer)
      Mrs. Puff: B-B-Beth!
      Student: She graduated!
Mrs. Puff: Henry? (SpongeBob moves closer) Vera? (SpongeBob moves closer) Clayton? (SpongeBob is poking Mrs. Puff with his desk as she sighs) Alright, I guess I have no choice. (gulps) The hall monitor of the day is SpongeBob. (SpongeBob launches into the air)

    • SpongeBob: I'm the maniac! (holds up drawing)

    • SpongeBob: A broken traffic light! Who's to say my monitoring duties should end just because the bell rang? I can be helpful anywhere! This looks like a job for... (deep heroic voice) ...the hall monitor!

    • Policeman #1: Son, we're looking for the maniac.
Policeman #2: Have you seen... (holds picture of SpongeBob) THIS MAN!?
Patrick: AAAHHH!!! IT'S THE MANIAC!!! TAKE HIM AWAY, TAKE HIM AWAY!!!
Policeman #1: Settle down, son, it`s just a drawing, not the real thing. Now we're going to show you the picture again and your going to tell us if you've seen this guy, understand?
      Patrick: Okay.
      Policeman #1: Alright.
      Policeman #2: (show picture)
      Patrick: AAAAAAAHHHH!!! HORRIBLE!!!
Policaman #2: (holds up picture slowly)
      Patrick: AAAAHH!!
      Policeman #1 & 2: (smile)
      Policeman #2: (shows picture respectively)
Patrick: AAAAAHH!! AAAAHHH!! AAAH!! AAHH!! AAAHH! AAAHH!! AAAHH!! AAHH!! AAHH!! AAHH!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
      Policeman #1: Stay indoor, son.
Policeman #2: And take that cone of your head.
Policeman #1 & 2: (start laughing and then drive away)

    • Mrs. Puff: SpongeBob, I would like to see you after class, six months from now!

    • SpongeBob: SpongeGuard reporting for duty, Ma'am!

    • SpongeBob: I'm on patrol, I'm on patrol, I'm on Patroool.

    • SpongeBob: SpongeBob here, Patrick. Report.
Patrick: I don't wanna be a policeman anymore I'm scared.
SpongeBob: Get a hold of yourself deputy.
Patrick: (crying) I wanna go home.

    • SpongeBob: I guess I overdid the speech again, huh?
      Mrs. Puff: I'm afraid so.

    • SpongeBob: Hey, that wasn't nice (The jellyfish throw Squidward's clarinet into the fire) OK, THAT IS IT, EVERYBODY OUT! You have overstayed your welcome, this music is way too loud.

    • Patrick: Spongebob! I see him!
      SpongeBob: Where is he, Patrick?
Patrick: At the intersection of Conch and Coral. (Sponge turns to see the street signs "Conch" and "Coral")
Spongebob: He's right on top of me, but I can't see him! What's he doing?
Patrick: Um, he's just standing there… menacingly! (screaming over walkie-talkie) GET OUT OF THERE, SPONGEBOB! (Sponge screams) That's his maniac screech. He's going to attack! (Sponge is running around in circles crying) He's acting all crazy! Run! Hide behind that building! (Sponge does) No, he's behind that building! Quick, hide behind that street sign! (Sponge does) No wait! The maniac just went behind that sign! Quick! Get under the street light! (Sponge does) No wait, he's there too! Run for your life! (Sponge does, and jumps inside a mailbox. Relieved, he relaxes. He hears interference on his walkie-talkie, and answers it)
      Spongebob: Say again, deputy?
Patrick: The maniac is in the mailbox!
(Sponge screams and sprouts his arms and legs out of the mailbox and runs around aimlessly. He crashes through buildings until eventually, he crashes through a fence plastered with maniac posters and collapses. One of the posters lands on Sponge and he examines it)
      Spongebob: Huh… this guy's not half-bad-looking for a maniac. …wait a minute, Patrick. I'm the maniac!
(shows him the picture. Off-screen, Pat screams. Then, four patrol cars pull up around Spongebob, and a bunch of policemen surround him. They form a curve around him)

    • Mrs. Puff: SpongeBob SquarePants! I am very disappointed in you! I turn my back on you for one second and you destroy half the city! You should be ashamed of yourself!

    • Mrs. Puff: (After allowing SpongeBob to be Hall Monitor for the rest of the day) Oh no... What have I just done?! Ohhh...

    • SpongeBob: (To Squidward) Squidward, would it be possible to play your clarinet a little... better? I don't think the jellyfish like it.
Squidward: The jellyfish don't like -- why sure, SpongeBob, I can play better.
SpongeBob: (To jellyfish) Okay, he said he'll play better. (Squidward's house turns directly to SpongeBob's house with big amplifiers for his clarinet; Squidward plays the clarinet worse)
SpongeBob: Uh-oh, that's not better. (Jellyfish go to Squidward's house)
Squidward: Umm, wait, I can turn it down. (Jellyfish sting Squidward)

    • Boy Fish: (in high voice) Extra! Extra! Maniac strikes Bikini Bottom! City paralyzed with fear! (in low voice) Take it friends. (gives paper to SpongeBob)
Boy Fish: (still in low voice) Arm yourselves with knowledge.

    • Squidward: SpongeBob is the only guy I know who can have fun with a jellyfish... FOR 12 HOURS!

    • SpongeBob: Think, Patrick. If you were a criminal, what would you do?
Patrick: Hmm... I'd get an ice cream!
(They come out of the ice cream shop)
      SpongeBob: Okay... now what?
      Patrick: Hmmmm....
(They come out of the ice cream shop with new cones)
SpongeBob: This isn't working. We need to do something else. Something with... WALKIE TALKIES!

    • SpongeBob: Gary! Don't stop shaking it!

    • Patrick: Hi, SpongeBob!
SpongeBob: That's "Hall Monitor" to you!
      Patrick: Sorry, officer.
SpongeBob: Sorry's not good enough, Patrick. You've just committed a crime and I'm taking you in.
      Patrick: What crime?
(Spongebob points to the ice cream spilled on the ground)
Patrick: I'M A BAD PERSON!!!!! (Sobs uncontrollably)

    • SpongeBob: Crime and punishment, punishment and crime, IN THE HALL!

    • (police pull up)
Patrick: Hello, brothers! (points to cone on his head)

    • Squidward: I wouldn't keep that thing in my house even if it was potty-trained!
Jellyfish: (Buzzing, on the toilet reading a newspaper)
Squidward: I didn't need to see that.

    • (Patrick sits on steel wall eating his ice cream while SpongeBob tries to get his attention)
SpongeBob: Patrick! (Patrick looks at ice cream) Patrick! (Almost pokes ice creame) Patrick!
Patrick: My ice cream! IT'S ALIVE!!! (Tosses ice cream) AAAAAHHHHHH!!!
      SpongeBob: Patrick, down here!
Patrick: (Looks down) Oh, SpongeBob! It's you.

    • (Pineapple is dancing, Squidward's house is rumbling)
Squidward: EIGHTEEN HOURS! (Falls off bed) I'm going to give that SpongeBob a piece of my mind. (Ringing up SpongeBob) SpongeBob, listen to me, you square-headed assault on my ears, I have enough of this... (Gets jelly on his head) strawberries.

    • Squidward: AAAAHHHHHH.
      Narrator: Ohh. I felt that.

  • NOTES (20)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Jellyfish Jam: Music
The music featured in "Jellyfish Jam" is a reference to the early 90's music of 2 Unlimited, which was all the rage at the time, and continues to be used in commercials and films even to this day. The song in question that is parodied is "Get Ready 4 This," right down to the crowd cheer samples.
