Episode Summary

Karen 2.0

Karen gets a horrifying evil upgrade.

  • Its a dam SOAP OPERA

nothing more to say than that... 3.5 F
  • Well, not a terrible episode, but...

Summary: Plankton creates a newer, more sophisticated robot to replace Karen; in response, she goes to work at the Krusty Krab.

While this episode isn't a complete abomination like some of the other newer SpongeBob episodes, I still can't help but have a problem with it. Basically, I don't like "Karen 2.0" for the same reason I don't completely like "Enemy-In-Law": in my opinion, this episode promotes infidelity.

I mean, think about it: Karen is supposed to be Plankton's wife. Sure, they're not the most stable "couple" around, but the fact that she's referred to as Plankton's "computer wife" still means that more likely than not, they're married. And now, twice has Plankton just thrown Karen aside for another (often more attractive) woman. Seriously, the only thing separating the plot of this episode with the story of Betty Broderick (look her up) is that Karen only kills the new "girlfriend," but not her husband.

Also, did we really need to hear Karen calling the new robot a "hussy?" Granted, compared to other things, it's probably tame, but do you really want your kids saying that word?

And just when the whole situation couldn't get any more infuriating, at the end of the episode, Karen goes back to Plankton...even though she proclaimed that she never wanted to see him again earlier in the episode! Seriously?

While "Enemy-In-Law" was arguably worse because more than one infidelity occurred (remember, Mrs. Krabs apparently cheated on Plankton with his robot...yeah, don't ask me how that worked), this episode isn't much better. The underlying message throughout the whole thing is that you can kick your spouse to the curb once you've found someone younger and more attractive. And once this new partner becomes boring, all you have to do is apologize to your old spouse (and perhaps even get hurt too) for him or her to forgive you.

    So...yeah. Not a terrible episode, but a terrible message.moreless
  • The best Karen episode by a long shot!

This is definetly the best of Karen but it really wasn't the best episode. I found this episode enjoyable both because it has a nice plot and because it was very funny. I liked the battle of the Karen's but it didn't feel like a 10 score because it wasn't extremely interesting like other episodes.
  • A funny episode

I liked this one a bit. I loved how naive Mr. Krabs was. Like when they find out that the free computer lying on the street (proclaimed by Mr Krabs) was actually Karren, it's so funny how Spongebob questions if it's a good idea to have Karren working for the Krusty Krab, and Mr Krabs replies "what part of free computer don't you understand."

    • Squidward: (he walks into the Krusty Krab) Huh?
Karen : (to Squidward) Welcome to the Krusty Krab, may I take your order?
      Squidward : My order?
Mr. Krabs : (to Squidward) I see Squidward must not have gotten the last company taste bud. Karen will be taking over your duties for now on Mr. Squidward, she's efficient and more importantly I don't have to pay her.
Squidward : (to Mr. Krabs) So I'm fired? No more taking orders? No more interacting with customers? No more SpongeBob? (Squidward starts to get cheerful and happy) I'm free I'm free I'm free free free free free free woo
Mr. Krabs : Not so fast Mr. Squidward
Squidward : (cuts to Squidward in bathroom duty and he sighs)

    • Karen : It's Plankton, he dumped me for a newer piece of hardware.(Karen is crying)
Mr. Krabs : (to SpongeBob and slowly moves him toward Karen) Help me out here buddy
SpongeBob : (to Karen) Hey there, dry those computer tears. I'm sure you two will get back together. Plankton just needs some time to realize how much he needs you, I mean you guys were made for each other. Well, you were made more for him and more specifically by him and now he's built some more modern features that's better in every way and ohh was my point again?
Karen : (Karen continues to cry) You men are all alike (Karen walks out of Mr. Krabs' office)
Mr. Krabs : (to Karen) Wait, where are you going? (to SpongeBob) Smooth SpongeBob, real smooth.
