    " I'm in money heaven! " - Eugene Krabs

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The writers have finally done it. They have managed to make a MODERN SpongeBob episode where the focus is Mr. Krabs being cheap that's actually FUNNY. Let that sink in. Mr. Krabs, a character who abuses animals, willingly drives his childhood friends to suicide, and spreads life-ruining rumors to make a quick buck, has gotten a genuinely good episode. How? Well, let's find out.

Our story begins with a news report. The news anchor announces the Bank of Bikini Bottom Bank has opened. We cut to the bank with the mayor cutting the ribbon, and he announces the first 100 people to open an account at the bank will get instant interest on their deposit. At the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob and Krabs are watching the report. Krabs decides that he wants in on the instant interest and runs to the bank. There, he's stunned by the money and goes on to the clerk about how he wants to see all the money while she presses a button for security. You see, one of the things that makes this episode work is the bank knows Mr. Krabs' obsession with money is unnatural, which makes it all the more hilarious when he is thrown out of the bank by the guards. Then, Mr. Krabs tries to open an account, this time with a moustache. It doesn't work, and he gets thrown out again. Um, was the episode 15 seconds too short? Did you have to add that pointless scene? Whatever, that's a small complaint I have about a good episode. Later, Krabs comes in to the bank dressed up as a woman, which seems to fool the guards and the clerk. Mr. Krabs opens a new account using a penny. Ugh, I'm having flashbacks of Penny Foolish in my mind. So, since Mr. Krabs doesn't want his penny to be stored with all the other money, the clerk escorts him to the safe deposit boxes. Krabs jumps into the safe deposit box to kiss his penny goodbye, but one of the employees, apparently not seeing his behind, closes the door to the safe deposit box. Okay, how does that happen? You could clearly see Krabs in the box. That guard sucks. Krabs is forced through the wall (must have hurt) and lands in the supposed bank vault. This is another thing worth mentioning: unlike in Penny Foolish, the catalyst is reasonable. Think of it this way: you wouldn't go crazy if someone took a penny from you, but you possibly could if you got thousands upon thousands of dollars. We go to the Krusty Krab where SpongeBob has discovered Krabs' absence, and he decides to search for him. Then we go back to the vault. Mr. Krabs finds the door to the safe deposit box has been locked, so he decides to stay for the night. Oh, this can only end so well. Then we cut to Krabs' house. SpongeBob alerts Pearl that her father has gone missing, and she sarcastically responds by telling him to call him on her phone. Um, here's the thing: despite how bratty Pearl is, I think she might care if she never saw her father again. Then again, I remember Whale of a Birthday(note to self: review Whale of a Birthday). SpongeBob calls Krabs, and he's having dinner with a woman named Ms. Greenback. She's made of money. Literally. Um, okay. SpongeBob finds out Krabs' location, and that he's going insane. He decides to break in to the bank. And Patrick's coming to help. Oh no. This is NOT going to go well. Back at the vault, Mr. Krabs is imagining he's on a tropical island with Ms. Greenback, but he can't find food. I know this is nitpicking, but how much food do you need for one night? If it was a day or two, I might understand, but you can probably go a night without any food. And then we go to SpongeBob and Patrick, who are outside of the bank. They are trying to break in using tied-up shoelaces, and it's actually pretty funny. In fact, a lot of jokes in this episode hit their mark, mostly due to the fact that this episode has more jokes than "Krabs is cheap". Cent of Money, was that really so much to ask for?!? Sorry, getting off-topic. Then, it's revealed that Patrick had a grappling hook. They use it to scale the bank. they climb into a vent and end up back where they started. That, um, totally affected the plot. After that, we cut back to Mr. Krabs. His imaginary island is on fire. Deal with it. Worst of all, Ms. Greenback has been sucked up by... a money dragon? Oh boy, this is gonna get interesting. Actually, it's just a vacuum cleaner. Because all bank vaults have vacuum cleaners? Back outside, Patrick is trying to pick the lock of the front door with a screwdriver. And then he tries a crowbar instead when SpongeBob tells him to use "finesse". This episode is really funny, by the way. Then, the bank manager opens the door for them, and Patrick amscrays. So, SpongeBob goes to the vault to save Mr. Krabs, who's ripping apart a money dragon. What the heck? So, with that SpongeBob and Krabs get kicked out, and Mr Krabs gets the interest of a penny.

    Rating:***

This episode. Oh this episode. I can't believe Krabs of all characters would be the highlight of the episode. Shocking, right? So, what makes this a good episode and not Penny Foolish or The Cent of Money? Two things, really. For one, Mr. Krabs was money hungry, but not mean-spirited. The way he didn't care about Gary's pain in The Cent Of Money was really cruel, but here, he's just trying to get money. Another fact is that his greed hurts no one but himself. Sure, he gets a penny, but we know that's not an actual reward. Plus, the innocent people at the bank are unaffected by his greed, which further cements my belief that Season 9 is an improvement. As, for Krabs, I can't believe he's the best part of the episode. He's really entertaining, especially when fighting the money dragon. If we continue to have episodes like this, he could be back to his original, father figure self, something I hope happens soon.

I'd also like to point out that this is Blake Lemon's third episode, and I hope he gets better as time goes on. He wrote for Squid Defense, which was bad, but he also wrote for Evil Spatula, which is good. My only hope is that he doesn't take writing lessons from Zeus Cervas. That would be truly evil.

But hold on! It's not over yet! This episode wins the award for:

Mr. Krabs' Best Season 9 Appearance

  • Hilarious Episode

    9.0
This episode was so hilarious and had me laughing my butt off. Mr. Krabs was actually like-able in this episode, as well. Usually, I hate Mr. Krabs just like most people because he can be a stingy jerk. In this episode, Mr. Krabs was not a jerk. He was money hungry, but that is what makes the episode hilarious.

The only two things that I did not like about this episode was Pearl's cameo and SpongeBob getting kicked out of the bank in the end. I think that Pearl was very rude in this episode and that SpongeBob did not do anything wrong.

Overall, this episode is superb, but it is not perfect. I give it a solid 9/10.moreless
  • A modern episode where Mr. Krabs isn't actually a jerk?

    8.0
I still haven't seen every season 9 episode so far, but I noticed that a "Mr. Krabs is greedy" episode has actually been done correctly. Mr. Krabs may be quite greedy in some parts of the episode, but I don't think that he's actually in the wrong. He doesn't get away with all the money, and no harm is dealt to any other character in this episode, due to something stupid that Mr. Krabs has done. Also, the people of Bikini Bottom aren't complete idiots in this episode. When we see an insane Mr. Krabs asking for all the money, they don't let him in, or give him the money, they kick him out of there. Also, the moustache disguise was quite good, and I'm glad that Mr. Krabs didn't get away with that either, the people of the Bikini Bottom aren't that stupid anymore. It's also funny to see him freak out because of all the money. I hope that more "Mr. Krabs is greedy" episodes turn out like this, and maybe they can finally improve from some awful episodes like "The cent of Money" (I'm ignoring "Spongebob, you're fired!") This episode gets an 8/10.moreless
  • Pleasantly Surprised

    7.5
I thought this episode was very decent; I think the number one rule about Mr. Krabs' greed is that it can't directly hurt anyone else, and it didn't in this episode. Sure, perhaps indirectly, but his actions don't put anyone in harm's way. I also got a kick out of him losing his mind in the bank. This is actually one of very few gags I can remember laughing at in new spongebob. Overall, I thought this episode was pretty solid.moreless
  • W-what the heck!?

    3.5
Ok, This episode is WAY TOO rushed, He is fucking greedy in this episode just like You are Fried by firing spongebob for a nickel. The plot is about mr krabs getting trapped in a bank with full of money, Is this the best you CAN come up with!? Writers, Don't even start making him a crybaby just like you made spongebob a crybaby too. This made me almost hate the likeable characters left in the modern one. It's funny seeing mr krabs on fire running to the bank, But the ending is rushed. Old spongebob was better! The plot is even random too. Spongebob is annoying now and even patrick is completely dumb now as he used to be smart and dumb.moreless
