Episode Summary

The Inmates of Summer:
SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally mistake a prisoner ship for their boat to summer camp.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • The Two Faces of Squidward airs with SpongeHenge now

This was another so-so pair. The 5.5 is mainly for The Inmates of Summer. The Two Faces of Squidward gets a 7.
  • wait a sec

squidward had THREE faces in that episode!
  • SpongeBob and Patrick go to a prisoner camp; Squidward become handsome with his face

The Inmates of Summer: This was a superb SB episode. While the plot here seems decent it was pretty enjoyable for most of the part expect for the dragged/boring scenes. Funny parts in the episode includes SpongeBob and Patrick ending up in a prison camp, SpongeBob and Patrick eating the whole chili, the whole play, the warden's appearance (he was a funny character; he has a lot of funny dialog), and one more. SCORE 9/10

the Two Faces of Squidward: A better episode.plot. My nitpick though was SpongeBob interrupting the doctor which was getting a little dragged/annoying but it was still a funny scene. Great scenes in the episode that are worth laughing at are the beginning where SpongeBob and Patrick ticked Squidward off by singing at the kitchen, Squidward getting hit by the face, everyone going crazy for the handsome Squidward, Squidward getting more handsome as opera music play in the background (one of the funniest parts) and the ending. OVERALL SCORE 10/10moreless

1.7 The Two Faces of Squidward:

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • According to the time that SpongeBob and Patrick were in the hole, and the night SpongeBob spent writing the play, it took 4 days for the counselor to check the list?

    • The word "handsome" is used 57 times in "The Two faces of Squidward."

    • SpongeBob and Patrick's play consisted of one spoken line and a song. Since it barely lasted a minute, why did SpongeBob need all those pieces of paper to write it down? Considering how small a typewriter's text is, he would probably only need one bit. Additionally, SpongeBob surely wouldn't need all night to write it.

    • In "The Two Faces of Squidward," when SpongeBob first walks into the Krusty Krab, he is not wearing his hat. However, when we see him again near the grill, he does have his hat on.

    • Scooter appears in the crowd, but he died in "Bubble Buddy."

    • It seems impossible for the fish's shoe to fall into the Krusty Krab. The Krusty Krab was never next to the house and it would have fallen already.

    • How could SpongeBob not tell he was on the wrong boat in "The Inmates of Summer," when he must've heard the boat to Sun N Fun island leave the docks? SpongeBob and Patrick thought it was the same boat.

    • No female characters appear in "The Inmates of Summer."

    • When the nurse saw Squidward's new face, she called it handsome, and she called Squidward handsome. SpongeBob said she spelled it wrong. How would he know that?

    • It took SpongeBob all night to clip his toenails in "The Two Faces of Squidward."

    • Goof: In "The Inmates of Summer", there is a scene where SpongeBob and Patrick are lined up with all the other prisoners after the escape attempt. In the first shot, there is no water beneath SpongeBob and Patrick's feet, but in the next shot, there is.

    • When Squidward became handsome, an old lady said she could walk, a blind man said he could see, and a random man said he could fly and his shoe fell off. How could it fall into the Krusty Krab if he flew straight up into the city?

    • Squidward gets hit in the face 21 times in this episode, 20 times by the door, and once by the wooden pole.

    • Squidward's face changed three times in this episode.

    • At first, there was a skeleton in the prison cell, but in the next moment it was gone.

  • QUOTES (22)

    • Squidward: You know SpongeBob, earlier today my spine was hurting. Now I am relaxing on fine leather upholstery.

    • SpongeBob: This is a pretty fun camp game, huh, Patrick?
      Patrick: Yeah!
SpongeBob: It's made it even more fun and challenging by the fact that we're wearing these heavy ankle weights.

    • Squidward: Welcome to the Krusty Krab. Where it's almost as if the revolutionary clock ticks backwards.
      (music continues)
Squidward: Hold on a second. Do you mind, I'm trying to work in a fast food restaurant, you might want to try it sometime!

    • SpongeBob: Hold it! The readings on this brain meter are all wrong! We must postpone the operation!
Doctor: That is a television set put there for the patient's enjoyment! And it's not even plugged into the wall!

    • Squidward: (in slow-motion, as a shoe prepares to fall on top of him) Let me hit you!
SpongeBob: Squidward, look out for that falling shoe!
Squidward: (turns around in slow motion) Huh?

    • (after the extremely handsome Squidward has been slammed against a pole)
      SpongeBob: (worriedly) Squidward?
Squidward: (looks up, his face back to normal) SpongeBob?
SpongeBob: (delightedly) You're back! (runs over) Oh, Squidward! I love you no matter how many times we smash your face! (hugs him)
Squidward: I almost wish that meant something.

    • Warden: Now, which one of you vile, low-down, vile miserable rechet swine left this pathetic, worthless, horror, and meaningless...
      SpongeBob: Uh, abomination.

    • SpongeBob: Oh, hey, Mabel! I saved the blue flower just for you!
Mabel: Oh, SpongeBob. Blue is my favorite color! Uhh...or is it orange?
SpongeBob: Don't worry, Mabel. Your amnesia will wear off soon.
      Mabel: My what?

    • Doctor: Okay, you can stay, but just make sure to stay on the other side of the-
(SpongeBob jumps to the other side of the bed)
      Doctor: Uhhh.

    • Prisoner #1: Do you know what boats do?
      Prisoner #2: Uhhh, make smoke?
Prisoner #1: No, dimwit! They float away from the island.

    • SpongeBob: (to Patrick) Well, that looks like a lame camp to be in.

    • SpongeBob: (to Patrick) I liked the other camp better.
      Patrick: Me too.
      SpongeBob & Patrick: Uhhh.

    • Patrick: Wow, I didn't know
      they'd have a hot tub!

    • Squidward: Quick, SpongeBob, pass me that mirror!
SpongeBob: Here you go. (gives him the mirror)
Squidward: That nurse was right, I am handsome!
      SpongeBob: You're not handsome, you're a hunk!

    • SpongeBob: Wait, stop!
Doctor: What could it possibly be now?!
SpongeBob: I just wanted to say sorry for interrupting you earlier.

    • Nurse: Time for your medicine, Mr, ha, Handsome?! (falls down)
Squidward: What did she call me?
SpongeBob: Handsome, but she spelled it wrong.

    • SpongeBob: (to the warden) It was an enjoyable soak, that is until this guy got thirsty and decided to drink the bathwater.
Patrick: Not bad, except for the aftertaste. (burps)

    • SpongeBob: Nope. Still handsome.
      (slams Squidward with a door)

    • SpongeBob: Wow, Squidward, you're even more handsome now!
      (crowd cheers)

    • Squidward: Well, no one said it would be easy being handsome. (steps into the bathtub)

    • Squidward: Quick, SpongeBob, we don't have much time! Now hit me with this door.
SpongeBob: I can't! It was one thing doing it by accident, but I can't hurt you on purpose.
Squidward: You better hurt me, or I'm really gonna hurt you!

    • SpongeBob: (to the doctor) Are you sure the patient has a Aprasomencesara?
Doctor: I have no idea what that is.

  • NOTES (13)

    • Title Card: The Two Faces of Squidward

The title card to "The Two Faces of Squidward" is similar to the Space Jam Poster.

    • Nurse Ratched
When SpongeBob first enters the hospital, he says good morning to the nurse at the front desk calling her "Nurse Ratched". This is an allusion to Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (or the movie with Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher). It doesn't make sense, however, because Kesey's Nurse Ratched is a control freak who dominates her ward on a mental institution and is a symbol of Female Dominance. The nurse seen at the front desk in this episode seems nice. It could fit in with the elderly woman SpongeBob greets afterwards who has Alzheimer's (a type of mental illness).
