Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • To Love a Patty was cheesy

To Love a Patty has got to be the most corniest SpongeBob episode I saw. The writers could've done better. I mean, the episode is about SpongeBob falling in love with a Krabby Patty (hence the title) and even singing a song about it. If you ask me, that's like someone confessing their feelings for a booger or something. Breath of a Fresh Squidward was much better, end of story.
  • Worst Season 5 episode paired with another bad episode

To Love a Patty: SpongeBob falls in love with a rotting Krabby Patty HE made, it looks like he wants to LAY it, he kills some scallops (one who could have been the one he raised 6 years earlier), and he eats in the end. . 2.0/10.0

Breath of Fresh Squidward: It tries to make us feel sorry for SpongeBob even though Squidward did nothing wrong. 3.5/10.0
  • This review is just for To Love a Patty.

In To Love a Patty, Spongebob is following his daily routine at the Krusty Krab flipping patties, and then he makes a krabby patty that to his point of view, is so beautiful and great that he refuses to give it away. Squidward then asks Spongebob what's taking so long and he sees how Spongebob is in love with the patty that he made, since he loves it so much Squidward sarcastically says for Spongebob to date it. Then he takes it as a great idea and actually does it. Spongebob then betrays his friends all for a krabby patty and sings a song that is ear bleedingly annoying, poorly scripted, cheesy and just plain stupid. Eventually Mr. Krabs redecorates the restaurant for a "special someone" Spongebob is bringing over. Then Mr. Krabs sees the patty and explains what it really, and then told a story of how he was also in love with a patty, and said how krabby patties are for eating and not dating. Then eventually Spongebob just eats the moldy patty even after it gets spoiled. This episode was stupid and completely terrible. Spongebob was an absolute jerk in this episode. He neglected his friends all for a sandwich?!? What a friend he is *sarcasm*. That song he sang was plain stupid and annoying, it made me want to hit the mute button. It was also disgusting how he would eat a sandwhich even after it got rotten and spoiled. The humor in this eposode was completely unfunny and stupid, and most of it was pretty much just crude humor. It tried hard to be funny but it failed miserably. Such as that shoe on a bun joke, or that fart joke were Spongebob passed by two customers with the patty smelling horrible and the woman said "Harold Again?". Let's not forget that scene were the gross closeup of the moldy patty is shown and Spongebob actually eats it. None of these jokes were clever or funny and they failed to make me laugh, seeing all this gross humor isn't funny and it gets worn out fast. While this isn't the worst episode of Spongebob, I can't recommend it to any Spongebob fans out there and I urge you to stay away from this episode. The only reason this gets a 5.0 is because Breath of Fresh Squidward was decent, despite having a few flaws, but I don't have much to say about it so I won't review it, but I'd definitely prefer Breath of Fresh Squidward over To Love a Patty anytime.moreless
  • Breath of Fresh Squidward is okay when it comes to plots, To Love a Krabby Patty has a lot of issues to deal with.

    Let's sum this up.

Breath Of Fresh Squidward: This episode is fairly good, and it made me laugh. Spongebob and Patrick are bugging Squidward around. So Squidward, thought that it would be a great idea if he'd had an electric fence on. But the duo can bypass it. Squidward fended them off by himself many times by catapulting them. But the duo suddenly came out beside him, and they asked for exit. Squidward held the knob on to open the door, and he got electrified in the process. After being electrocuted, his personality changed from a grumpy guy, to a lovable guy. And anyone in Bikini Bottom liked him more than SB. And Spongebob got jealous of him. Things started to break off..

What I didn't like in this episode is Spongebob and Patrick's sneaky attitude. They went inside Squidward's bedroom in 3 AM in the morning. That's unethical! That could count as stalking and trespassing! Just to watch the sunrise! That's not a good way to surprise or annoy someone! That will mostly send you into the back of the bars. And I dislike Spongebob's jealousy a little bit, but it's not much of an issue.

To Love A Krabby Patty: Nonsense storyline. Spongebob fells in love with a Krabby Patty, (that crap is overused) and he did try to prevent the sandwich from being eaten, messed up, or any other way that can make it go away. A little disgusting, but not disgusting as "Pet or Pests". Also, SB's flamboyant attitude is cringe-worthy.

Overall: 4.8. Breath of Fresh Squidward has a nice plot and watchable, but To Love a Krabby is a waste of time!moreless
  • "To Love a Patty" was a poor episode but I loved "Breath of Fresh Squidward"

To Love a Patty: The first time I saw this episode, it was just ok. The other times I've watched it, I thought it was bad. The idea of this episode was really stupid and SpongeBob was such a huge jerk in the episode. The episode also features the worst musical number in the series in my opinion. What is it with SpongeBob karate chopping those clams like why. I laughed a couple of times and there were a few moments I sorta enjoyed but that's really it for the positives. The ending was disgusting and it was just another lazy idea for the writers to come up with since it was too difficult for them to come up with something clever. It's a poorly executed episode and it was just poor overall.. 4/10

Breath of Fresh Squidward: I love this episode much more than the first one. I loved to see Squidward's nice side for once. I would actually want him to stay that way (except for him taking away SpongeBob's Employee for the Month and getting credit for what he does). I'm not gonna take away points for Squidward taking away SpongeBob's Employee of the Month and getting credit for everything because I love this episode and SpongeBob too much. I thought the beginning was funny with SpongeBob and Patrick watching the sun rise in the morning with Squidward (who was asleep). I thought SpongeBob yelling at Squidward was WAY out of character but at least he apologized to him even though it was too late. I did feel sorry for Squidward after SpongeBob yelled at him... it made me say "awwww... poor Squidward". It was also funny when SpongeBob and Patrick became just like Squidward at the end of this episode after the three of them were electricuted. Overall, it was a funny and cute episode. 10/10moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • The tough guy that appear in To Love a Patty sounds a LOT like Cliff from CatDog.

    • We learn that as long as Squidward is happy, he can cook Krabby Patties just as well as SpongeBob.

    • When Squidward is being electrified, he is shown having bones, but squids, like sponges, have no bones.

    • In "To Love a Patty," how is there a kitchen fire if they're underwater?

    • When SpongeBob said the last words of "Oh baby", the patty was all soggy and dark. But when they go to the Krusty Krab, the patty looked normal exept for it smelling and it having extra disgusting ingredients.

    • In "Breath of Fresh Squidward," SpongeBob and Patrick say that their favorite past-times are going in Squidward's room to watch the sunrise. Meanwhile, never in any other episode do SpongeBob and Patrick go in Squidward's room in the morning to watch the sunrise.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • SpongeBob: I think I was a little mean to Squidward. I know! I'll apologize.

    • SpongeBob: Maybe you can take my job, and maybe you can take my place of Employee of the Month, but nobody, and I mean nobody, pogo-sticks with that guy but me, so do yourself a big fat favor, and get out, boob!
      Squidward: (cries)

    • Patrick: (in a sarcastic tone) I wonder who`s the new employee of the month? No, seriously, who?
SpongeBob: The guy you`re looking for is over there. (cries)
Patrick: SpongeBob, I need you to put yourself together, and help me spell Squidward.

    • SpongeBob: Squidward, Mr. Krabs, meet Patty.
Mr. Krabs: Your date is a Krabby Patty? (whispers to Squidward) Me thinks the boy has really lost it.

    • Mr. Krabs: Come here, Squidward, and be the new employee of the month!

    • Squidward: How is the cake, SpongeBob?
SpongeBob: Very okay cake, Squidward. Very okay cake.

    • SpongeBob: Wow, Squidward seems really happy today.
Patrick: He probably likes his new glasses.

    • SpongeBob: Hello, Patty. Now that we're together, nothing could come between you and me.
      (Squidward squeezes himself in between)
      Squidward: Hello, SpongeBob.

    • SpongeBob: Ahhh! Fire!
      Gary: Meow.

    • Squidward: What are you gonna do with it? Put a fancy dress on it, take it for a walk?
SpongeBob: That's exactly what I'm gonna do.

    • Patrick: I'm losing my best friend to a sandwich! I know, I`ll have a lovely sandwich of my own. Yeah! That`ll show SpongeBob!

    • Mr. Krabs: Squidward, where the barnacles is our fry cook?! He's been gone all day! That boy's never been a work shirker. We got a crowd of hungry customers waiting!
Squidward: How should I know? Do I look like an idiot's keeper?
      Mr. Krabs: Well... actually...
      SpongeBob: Hello, good sirs!

    • Squidward: Who wants a free refill?
Mr. Krabs: (in his office) Did someone just say "free"? (rushes to the front) What's the problem here?
Little Girl Fish: (crying) He... he... he asked me if I wanted tartar sauce, and then he gave me a free hat.
      Mr. Krabs: Free?!?! Mr. Squidward!
      Squidward: Yes, sir.
Mr. Krabs: Listen up. Me customers come here for cheap food and verbal abuse, and if you can't get it right, get back in the kitchen with SpongeBob!

    • SpongeBob: Pay no attention to that wubbie-wubbie! I'll always love you.

    • SpongeBob: I have a date coming in.
Squidward: A date?! How could you possibly date anyone?
(Zoom into see SpongeBob looking dorky)
      Squidward: She must be blind.

    • SpongeBob: In all my years of fry cookery, I've never seen such a group of beautiful Krabby Patties. Especially you. (points to a patty) With your lettuce hair, those tomato cheeks, and that mustard smile. I`ll call you patty.
Squidward: SpongeBob, where are those patties?!

    • Squidward: Do you remember what I told you happens to my brain every time I see you?
      SpongeBob & Patrick: Story time!
SpongeBob: Can I tell it this time, Squidward? Pretty please? Whenever Squidward sees us, the storm clouds in his brain roll in and a nasty storm rages. So, Squidward's Happy Gland is forced to take shelter in the recesses of his mind, but the Happy Gland can't find a recess deep enough, so he gets the flu and has to stay in bed until we leave.

  • NOTES (16)

    • SpongeBob's drum solo is similar to Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein," and its famous drum solo in the song.

    • The song SpongeBob sings to his patty sounds a little similar to "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwod Mac.

    • The song "I Can't Keep My Eyes Off of You" is similar to "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" heard on High School Musical soundtrack.

    • Club Penguin
In the scene where Squidward makes SpongeBob jealous at Patrick's house, the party hat on the left of SpongeBob, is the beta party hat in the computer game Club Penguin.

    • The plot for "Breath of Fresh Squidward" seems to mirror that of Pinky and the Brain's "That Smarts," in which Brain makes Pinky smarter, only to become stupid himself, and Pinky goes back to normal with him.
