SpongeBob SquarePants

Season 3 Episode 10

Wet Painters / Krusty Krab Training Video

Aired Saturday 10:00 AM May 10, 2002 on Nickelodeon

  • Trivia

    • Listen Closely: While Plankton is about to be tossed out the door, he says what he said in "Plankton's Army".

    • During the scene where SpongeBob blows the paint he made, it was about to hit the frame, but when he blows on it, it's still going. And when SpongeBob blowed on the paint that was going to the right, it did the same thing.

    • Mr. Krabs said to not get paint on anything except the wall, but SpongeBob and Patrick got paint on the stairs.

    • When Mr. Krabs walks to his Knick-knacks, he walks next to his stairs, but in the next scene, he walks like he's walking downstairs.

    • In "Wet Painters" before Mr. Krabs noticed that the "Doll-a-rama" was messed up, while observing how Spongebob and Patrick did on the painting job, he exclaims "Criminy jim jam!". But closed-captioning on the SpongeBob SquarePants Season 3 DVD box set says "Criminy jim jim!"

    • According to the time cards, Mr. Krabs has been gone for 6 hours.

    • In the end of the "Krusty Krab Training Video, the narrator says, "spine tingling" and SpongeBob looks as if his spine was tingling. But SpongeBob is a sponge, so he has no spine.

    • On "Wet Painters," when you look at the dollar after he takes the paintings off, there is no crayon drawn on it! and after he points it out and puts the dollar back on the wall, there is still no crayon!

    • Revealed in SpongeBob SquarePants: The Complete Third Season as the #1 episode in the show chronology so far.

    • An instrumental version of the song "Eye of the Tiger" does not play over the end credits. The theme to the end credits has similar music, with very much the same rhythm to "Eye of the Tiger," although it is not the song itself.

    • Comcast refers to this episode as "Crusty Crab Training Video."

    • The sign in the bathroom written in English ("Please, wash your fins") and Spanish ("Lave las aletas") is a parody of other similar signs found in companies like Wal-Mart. The Spanish part of the sign is not a totally correct translation because it literally says "Wash the fins." A more faithful translation of "Please, wash your fins" is "Por favor, lávese las aletas."

    • The music for the title card is similar to that of the theme from Nickelodeon SNICK.

    • At the end of the episode, it is sometimes mistaken that it is credited to have been animated by Spiffy Pictures, Little Airplane Productions, Billifords, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and Klasky Csupo instead of United Plankton Pictures when it is broadcast on Nickelodeon. This was corrected in 2006, when United Plankton Pictures is now listed as the producers of this episode.

    • POOP stands for "People Order Our Patties." The Spanish version is CACA, which stands for "Clientes Adoran Comer Aquí." Those words mean, "Customers Enjoy Eating Here."

    • In Greece, crabs are associated with misery and penny-pinching, elements of Mr. Krabs' character. The connection is made by the proverbial saying that the miser keeps crabs in his pockets so that no hands ever enter to get money out of them. It is not known if the show's creators were aware of this.

    • When Mr.Krabs came home and was looking for anything that got paint on it, he noticed there was a stack of paintings on the wall. And when he started to grab them off one of the paintings was the Pirate guy that sings the theme song to the tv show.

    • In Wet painters, the Candy Machine in Mr. Krab's Home All Of A Sudden apeared before Patrick Then After it Disappears when Mr. Krabs Gets Home.

    • Problem: In Krusty Krab Training Video, the restaraunt closes at 6:00. In the episode Graveyard Shift, the place closes at 8:00. Why?

    • The narrator says the store closes at six, but it's a restaurant.

    • If there's a standing fee, why could Patrick say "Uhhhhhhh......." there for so long?

    • In the Krusty Krab Training Video, we learn that Mr. Krabs had regular nickels when he was young. BUT, in "Can You Spare A Dime?" (which was only a seven episodes before this), coins were giant round rocks when he first started Krusty Krab Inc.!

    • At the end of "Krusty Krab Training Video", the narrator mentions that the employee is 'the essential human resource'. In case you haven't noticed, SpongeBob is not human; he is a sponge.

    • In "My Pretty Seahorse", Mr Krabs never says it was his first dollar. He simply says he was given a dollar.

    • Response to Goof #1:They probably filmed each part a different time, even when some people arent there.

    • If the sign in the bathroom says "Wash Your Fins", does that mean people like Spongebob without fins don't have to wash their hands or whatever else they got.

    • Wet Painters: In this episode, Mr. Krabs has his first dollar in a picture frame. Yet in the episode, "My Pretty Seahorse", Mr. Krabs says he spent his first dollar.

Krusty Krab Training Video: In this episode, the grill is next to the window. In other episodes (ex: Your Shoe's Untied), however, it is on the other side of the kitchen. This is not the only episode where the grill is next to the window, it happens constantly.

    • Mr. Krabs probably would not notice the white paint on his first dollar, he could probably only smell it.

    • In one of Nickelodeon's endings, it said it was from Klasky Csupo inc. It should say United Plankton.

    • In "Wet Painters," before SpongeBob and Patrick apply the paint, there was a lot of stuff. After they applied it, it looked like a lot of stuff was taken down. Also, note that the first dollar frame kept switching places.

    • Some of the pictures in Mr. Krabs' living room change places.

    • After Squidward asks what Patrick wants, it cuts to the scene with Plankton. When Krabs flicks Plankton away, you can see the register in the background, Squidward and Patrick are gone! In the next scene, they are there again.

  • Quotes

    • SpongeBob: Hi, Mr. Krabs.
Mr. Krabs: SpongeBob, what are you doing?
SpongeBob: Oh, you know, just hanging around.
      Patrick: Boo!

    • Patrick: This is all Mr. Krabs' fault! If he hadn't hung that stupid dollar in the first place!...I mean, it's not like it looks any different than a regular dollar. Why hang it? You could just stick any old dollar bill on the wall, no one would even know the difference! You might as well reach in my wallet, pull out a dollar, and put it on the wall! And it would...
SpongeBob: Hurry Patrick, take out your wallet.

    • Patrick: Wait, SpongeBob, all we got to do is wash the paint off and Krabs will never know!
      SpongeBob: But Mr. Krabs said...
Patrick: Forget what Mr. Krabs said! Every paint comes off with something! (cuts to scene in washing machine)

    • SpongeBob: We're dead, Patrick! Do you know what that is?
      Patrick: Hmmm…it's a dollar. I win!

    • Narrator: THREE HOURS LATER!
Patrick: (Breaking fourth wall, holding time card) Could you move it along? I'm running out of time cards.

    • SpongeBob: Mr. Krabs sure has a lot of expensive treasures to drip paint on. Do you think we should take this stuff off the walls?
Patrick: No way, SpongeBob, we're not getting paid to move stuff.
SpongeBob: Patrick, we're not getting paid at all.
Patrick: Well that's what I said! We're not getting paid and that's final!
SpongeBob: Okay, we'll just paint around all this stuff.
Patrick: Good, just don't pay me.

    • SpongeBob: We were performing a ritual to attract customers. And the only way the ritual can work is for us to get hurt. Real bad.
Mr. Krabs: What stupid barnacle told you that?
      Squidward: Uhhh...(holds up magazine)

    • Mr. Krabs: What the devil fish is going on out here?! Time is money! And if you boys is wasting time, then you're wasting money!

    • Mr. Krabs: (Grill<)/em> This here is an advanced patty-control mechanism. (Cash register) Here you can see our money-handling system. Don't touch! (Ice) These are our high quality beverage temperature device, imported. (Straw) This here is a prototype liquid transfer machine. (Ketchup) And most importantly, you get your state-of-the-art condiment dispersal units. Now, are you gonna buy something or just stand there, cause there's a standing fee.

    • Narrator: After making sure your feet are polished, your face is clear of any blemishes or boils (SpongeBob cuts away boil on nose), and your hair is neat and tidy, you are ready to start the day! Now let's see how Squidward prepares for his shift.
(Cubicle with Squidward inside opens. Squidward wakes up and shuts the door)
Narrator: Remember! No employee wants to be a Squidward!

    • Narrator: Squidward! Just remember P.O.O.P.!
Squidward: Patrick, if I can make a suggestion, why don't you just order a Krabby Patty?
Patrick: Great idea, Squidward! One Krabby Patty, please.

    • Mr. Krabs: I gotta learn how to say it, not spray.

    • Narrator: (describing Squidward) Beside every good employee, there is one that is not so good. Aggressive, initentive, a glazed look in the eye and pay attention to the(Zooms in to Squidward's Shirt) "I really wish I weren't here right now" Button.

    • Narrator: And the Secret Formula is-

    • SpongeBob: AHHH!! What could be worse than a giant paint bubble?
Patrick: Oh, I know, two giant paint bubbles!
      (the two paint bubbles fuse)
      SpongeBob: Patrick?
      Patrick: Yeah, SpongeBob?
SpongeBob: I don't think this bubble can get any bigger.
      Patrick: Nonsense!
(Patrick starts pumping air in the paint bubble)
      SpongeBob: Pat, NO!!

    • Mr. Krabs: If you're wasting time, you're wasting money! And that's just sick...

    • Spongebob: (After picking up the paintbrush) Maybe we should start out small. (Takes out little paintbrush and puts it in his nose and pulls out a single nose hair. Patrick does the same and pulls out a bushel of nose hair.)

    • (the drop of paint bounces off the tarps and back into the paint can)
      Patrick: That was a rip-off.

    • Patrick: (watches SpongeBob open the lid) Careful, SpongeBob! Careful, SpongeBob! Careful, SpongeBob! Careful, SpongeBob! CAREFUL, SPONGEBOB!!!
SpongeBob: Pat, the lid's already open.
Patrick: Oh. Now it's my turn! (hammers a can of paint with an axe)

    • Squidward: Patrick, go be stupid somewhere else!
Narrator: Nu-uh. Uh, Squidward, remember what Mr. Krabs says.
(a cardboard of Mr. Krabs comes up and a caption bubble)
Mr. Krabs: The money is always right!
Patrick: The ceiling is right, Squidward. You're not a very good employee.

    • Spongebob: (hitting Patrick with a club) NOTHING'S WORKING!!!
Patrick: Wait, SpongeBob!! We're not cavemen!!! (walks over to a computer) We have technology.... (picks up the computer and bangs it against the dollar)
      SpongeBob: Patrick, it didn't work.

    • Plankton: (after being stopped by Mr. Krabs) I knew I should've gotten the turbo.

    • Mr. Krabs: (seeing SpongeBob hanging on the wall) What are you doing, lad?
SpongeBob: Oh, just hanging around. (laughs nervously)
      Patrick: (giving thumbs down) Boo!!

    • Plankton: Eat my microscopic dust, Krabs! You'll never catch me! Not when I shift into... MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!

    • SpongeBob: Mr. Krabs sure has a lot of stuff to drip paint on. Maybe we should take them off the wall.
Patrick: No way, SpongeBob, we're not getting paid to move stuff.
SpongeBob: Patrick, we're not getting paid at all.
Patrick: Well, that's what I said! We're not getting paid and that's final!
SpongeBob: Okay, so we'll just paint around everything.
Patrick: Good, just don't pay me.

    • Patrick: I think you are overreacting, SpongeBob. I don't see any paint.

    • Mr. Krabs: Did you two get paint all over me first dollar?!
SpongeBob & Patrick: We're so sorry, Mr. Krabs!
Mr. Krabs: And then did you draw it with crayon?!
Patrick: I thought, you know, maybe he'd buy it.

    • Narrator: Sounds like a lot of...
      Kid: HOOPLA!
      Narrator: Sounds like a lot...
      Kid: HOOPLA!
      Narrator: Sounds like a-
      Kid: HOOPLA! HOOPLA!
Narrator: (hits the kid with a brick) Sounds like a lot of hoopla over a little Krabby patty, right? WRONG!!!!

    • SpongeBob: Mr. Krabs, can I have a raise?
Mr. Krabs: (busy writing something) No!
      Narrator: Good job, Mr. SquarePants!
SpongeBob: Can I make a Krabby Patty now-
(Narrator cuts to the next part)

    • Patrick: This is all Mr. Krabs' fault! If he didn't hang that stupid dollar in the first place! I mean, it doesn't look any different than a regular dollar! Why hang it? You can just stick any old dollar bill up on the wall; nobody would even know the difference! You might as well just reach into my wallet and get a dollar and put it on the wall! I mean-
SpongeBob: (gets an idea by what Patrick said) Hurry Patrick, get out your wallet!
Patrick: (pulls out wallet) I don't see were your going with this. (dollar pops out) Hey! A dollar!

    • Squidward: Is that here or to go? (shuts his mouth with his tentacles)
      Patrick: Uhhh...
(Squidward bangs his head on the register)

    • SpongeBob: You just told us the paint was permanent so me and Patrick would be more careful and not get paint on anything!
Mr. Krabs: Nah! I just like to mess with ya!

    • (Mr. Krabs is checking on SpongeBob and Patrick's job of painting his living room)
Mr. Krabs: Criminy jim jim! You messed up my dollar... rama! All the dolls in this dollarama were perfectly aligned. And you boys thought I wouldn't notice! Oh well, I guess no harm done.

    • Narrator: Here is a customer. I wonder what he wants. Well, if we jut remember POOP, we could figure it out!
      Customer: I'd like to order-
Narrator: Do you think he's going to order A: A sofa, B: An expensive haircut, or C: A patty?
      Customer: One Patty, please.
Narrator: Aww... POOP, you never let us down!

    • Narrator: As you can see by this graph...
      (giraffe walks by)
Narrator: Ahem...GRAPH... you have been hired by one of the most successful restaurants in Bikini Bottom. But it didn't get like that overnight, because the store closes at 6.

    • Mr. Krabs: Flippin fishpaste! What's that?!
SpongeBob: We're sorry, Mr. Krabs! Don't debutt me, don't debutt me!

    • Mr. Krabs: Alright, boys, you know what I'm goin' to do now?
      SpongeBob: You mean our butts?
Patrick: Can I use mine one last time?

    • Narrator: One hour later.
SpongeBob: Just a little mental preparation and I'll be painting this wall!
      Narrator: Two hours later...
SpongeBob: I'm getting to the painting.
      Narrator: Three hours later...
Patrick: Could you move it along? I'm all out of time cards.

    • Narrator: And now we go from behind the scenes to the front line, the thing that keeps the restaurant running, the customer. Or as we like to say, the Krustomer!
Patrick: Who said that?! Are you a ghost?
Narrator: Like precious blood in a mammal, customers are what keep the Krusty Krab strong and alive.
Patrick: Squidward! Your ceiling's talking to me!
Squidward: Are you going to order something or just make friends with the paneling?

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Patrick: Uhhh...

That quote was similar to the episode "Neptune's Spatula" where he said the same thing.

    • Whilst the training montage styled music used for the theme of the Krusty Krab Training Video sounds a lot like something from Rocky, this exact piece of music has been in other shows. I have searched to try and find out where it came from, but have found nothing yet.

The music can also be heard in the Exorcist parody movie, "Repossessed", and I have heard it in other shows and movies too, though I forget what.

    • none: none
The music played at the end of the Krusty Krab Training Video episode sounds similar to the tune from the "Eye Of The Tiger" song. Famous for being played in one of the Rocky Films. (The one with Mr.T)

    • Plankton: You'll never catch me Krabs, once I switch into Maximum Overdrive.
Plankton makes reference to the movie in the 1980's Maximum Overdrive in which a bunch of machines went crazy and tried to take over a town.
