  • Good episode, but Spooks is capable of so much better...

    8.0
To be honest, I have been a fan of Spooks since its first season but I have to say that this may have been the weakest Series premiere of the show. While I enjoyed certain aspects of the story (Including who really paid for him) some aspects just felt far too forced (Including the return of Ruth) I realise that a lot of people will have enjoyed this and I see how it boosted the story in some ways but I can't help but wonder if maybe it was more of a ratings stunt? But in conclusion, Spooks is back. Which is something to be happy about. But I still hope that the season improves and hits the standards produced in previous seasons.moreless
  • Intense and spellbinding

    10
After waiting almost a year since the end of series 7, I had built up great expectations for this episode. All of them were met. First, the MI5 team has to work hard and fast to save Harry from death. Second, Ruth is back!!!! -- and she is as warm and caring and intuitive and brilliant as ever!!! Malcolm showed himself to be the hero we've always known he was and won my heart again. Ros is icy and witty and loyal and inspiring of loyalty. Lucas is just amazing in every way.

One small detail did detract from my enjoyment. New CIA agent liaison officer Sarah Caufield is a disappointment. Her American accent is anything but American - perhaps understandable when she is played by an Irish/Australian actress. More importantly, her acting was not up to the high standard of the main cast. Luckily, that main cast was fabulous and made me forget Sarah as soon as she was off screen.moreless
