  • Has everyone gone mad?

Total bollox. Jo convinces the PM's son to turn against his Dad on tv no less with no evidence other than her word, "bad men who are going to destroy the world. You have to do something"

As if the guy would not have his Dad's mobile, or his Mum's. And as if he would get caught up in the middle of a riot. He would go to the nearest copper and say "oi, I'm the PM's son. Don't you dare shoot me"

Since when did Jo become a judo expert?

Spooks has become the X-Files but without the groovy aliens. Not happy.

Compare this to the first episode of series 1, very low key, an abortion bomber coming into Britain but very important things to say about the political motivations of these people and the hypocrisy of their position.

As well as taking on a contemporary issue, it does not go to Men in Black lengths to tell a story. We don't need this machiavellian cr*p.

Spooks should and could be better than this.moreless
  • Another fine episode.

Although I am concerned about the introduction of the \\\"Ros\\\" character to the show. I\\\'ve seen episode 3 (downloaded it from someone who recorded it off the BBC), and she is unpleasant in every respect. Even though her father was a traitor, and Adam basically saved her by offering her a position at MI-5, she resents being treated like an underling (presumably, she was a senior officer with MI-6), and walks around with a dour expression and is altogether rude with everyone \\\"on the grid\\\". I was hoping for someone to replace Colin, and not be saddled with Ros.

Other than that, the show is still top-notch in every respect, and you have enjoy the fledgling love affair between Harry and Ruth...they are the perfect couple.moreless
  • A great conclusion to the new season opener, it kept the pace and the tension up throughout. Some spoilers in this review.

This was another roller-coaster ride through Spooks-world; a place where the police will stand down when called upon to do so, where there are MI5 agents who will do the right thing, where there are people protecting this country who do have some ethics. Not everything is acceptable for the greater good, and the public will not go quietly into the dark night - fictional or real.

I enjoyed the conclusion almost as much as I enjoyed the opener. I say almost, because I was disappointed by some characters' actions - not because I thought they were out-of-character, but because I thought what started out as some people standing up for what they believed was right (no matter how abhorent it seemed to me), doing harsh things for the greater good of the country and the people, turned out to be doing it for the same old reasons - greed, power, self-interest. Only Collingwood stood his ground.

I was also disappointed by Ros Meyers. Was she so niaive about her father and what was really going on? How does that reflect on her ability to judge people in her job? Does how events played out in this episode weaken her position in MI5? Interesting to see how it pans out throughout the rest of the season.

And I can't finish without commenting on Ruth & Harry; maybe some more characters can have a chance of happiness.moreless
  • This truly is edge of your seat drama, rarely am I so gripped that I find myself screaming at the television.

Spooks continues to grow getting better season after season. The writing is dynamic and they are not afraid to take risks, you get the sense that no character is safe.

In this episode we find the team still in shock from the death of one of their own coming to terms with the fact that the Prime Minister is no longer running the country, with the strings are being by a few deluded individuals hungry for power. This fast paced episode see’s them rushing to avoid a midair crash over London, while Harry finds himself incarcerated in a detention center within the emerging police state. Adam must turn the renegade MI6 officer while the rest of the team attempt to stop a massacre as armed police take to the streets, confronting protesters in which they believe hides a suicide bomber.moreless
