Sam demonstrates his ability to pay attention even when visibly doing something else. When Dana goes out with an old friend from high school, Casey is unsettled. Dana, in a spur of the moment whim, takes off her panties during the utterly boring meal and stuffs them into her purse , which Natalie, once informed, inadvertently blurts to Casey during a discussion. When he confronts Dana about it, she gets all defensive but once he realizes it wasn't a threat to him he relaxes. Dan, in the meantime, realizes something is up with regards to the poll when Casey has 3,000,000 votes to Dan's 230+moreless

The tension grows, when the network bosses demand that the staff meet with J.J. and his boys for "some notes". Sam is offered Isaac's job but doesn't answer, then shows his respect for Isaac and the others' work by sidetracking the network execs' meeting as it was getting out of hand, and answering their job offer by surreptitiously leading them to the exit and suggesting very strongly that they are incompetent to be judging the staff's work or making suggestions of any kind and should leave immediately. Isaac observes what he did, and Sam goes back into the meeting alone and tells the staff to trust him, he's going to help pull them out of the hole they are in.moreless

Dana, his producer, ardently defends him, even while she tries to get him to shape up before they override her shielding of him. At the same time Casey himself is thinking about quitting sports, citing the moral decay he's seen on the job, despite Dan's observation that he'd only be doing it for the wrong reasons. Dana also hires a new associate producer -- high strung but brilliant Jeremy Goodwin. In the end, a unique sporting event rekindles Casey's fire and all is well.moreless
