    • Jeremy : Listen to me everybody, stop your work. A writer once wrote 'As if it matters how a man falls down. When the fall is all that's left it matters very much.' What did he mean by that? He meant do not abandon blowouts. Watching proud and accomplished atheletes battle in the face of odds that are virtually hopeless is one of the more stirring sights in all of sports. The Phillies have been down fourteen to one since the third inning and I think it's the best game we've got. That is all.

  • NOTES (3)

    • "What Kind of Day Has it Been" is the title of the first season finales for three of Sorkin's television shows – Sports Night, The West Wing, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. The title is used again in The Newsroom's second season (and series) finale.

    • Sorkin Intersections: Nina Siemaszko recurred on The West Wing as Eleanor "Ellie" Bartlet, the President's middle daughter. She also appeared in The American President.

    • Robert Guillaume returns to the show after hospitalization and rehab due to his stroke. Although mild in comparison to some strokes, Guillaume had a little difficulty with his speech that would fade during season two, and used a cane because of continued balance problems.
