Syndicado (ended 1999)

Human casual clothing in the future is just terrible.

Seriously, why do they wear such rubbish? A lot of the time it follows the basic design of their uniforms but modified, and the rest of the time it's just ugly. When will a member of the Federation hang out in his or her spare time wearing a t shirt?

Yeah, now that I come to think of it Jake wore a lot of dark green clothing. I suppose since the station isn't brightly lit you wouldn't want to wear anything too bright. It would make you a target.

A lot of stuff Jake wore also went by the Starfleet template of a differently coloured shoulder section. It's like his father was trying to get him used to the uniforms as a child or something.

I thought Jake wore some nice outfits, especially later in the series I am guessing as the actor got older and could speak out against the clothes they wanted him to wear... which some of his outfits boardlines on child abuse.

But yes in general future clothes just sucks. I think it is just really funny because it seems for all the money they spent on sets and special effects I doubt between TNG/DS9/VOY and ENT combinded they probably didn't spend a total of $100 in casual wear costums. I have this horrible feeling that they got the casual wear stuff by literally going through the garbare of like a clothes designer or a fashion college.

I wonder if everyone on the station was outfitted by Garak. Would explain a lot! Wink

No, Garak's stuff was great. He himself reflected that it's a shame that he actually is a good tailor.

Considering how much starfleet controls everyone's lives, I wouldn't be surprised. I remember reading an article (I can't remember where) about how Starfleet is a pretty messed up organisation that brainwashes anyone who goes near it.

I know this is old, but you also have to remember that there's no way to know what fashion will be like in three centuries. Look at how much fashion changes in three years much less three decades. Starfleet has different morals, ethics, and needs. They are also affected by the fashions of other races. Most of the civilian clothing we see is very utilitarian and unisex which fits with the Federation mindset of equality.
