  • Archer has a moral dilemma to deal with while T'Pol has a hidden problem...

    8.5
This episode starts strangely. The last episode has Enterprise going down in flames while the captain is being tortured. But all this is aborted, with Archer finding his way back to Enterprise (with the assistance of some helpful Xindi) and the Reptilian Xindi backing off from their attack on the ship.

Fortunately, the tension mounts again when we find T'Pol having an addiction problem that she is struggling to hide. Then Archer has to face a tough decision to steal some technology from another ship to complete important repairs to Enterprise. Although the audience is probably sick-and-tired of hearing Archer say over-and-over-again 'must complete the mission', in this case it is really interesting to see the captain cross the moral line.moreless
  • The warp coil was damaged in an attack and a member of the Xindi Council wished to meet Archer at a certain time. He couldn't miss this meeting so he negotiated with another ship for a working warp coil. Archer decided to take it by force when they refusemoreless

    5.5
This is a strange plot twist since Archer tortured a captured pirate in the episode Anomaly to get back technology that the pirates had stolen from them during a raid. So it's really strange that he would do the same thing when it suited him. The fact that he knew that it was wrong doesn't make it right -- this really isn't a suitable behaviour for a Starfleet officer. I really hope that he plans to find the ship and give back the warp coil he stole to make their enforced three year long journey shorter and to apologize for crippling them! I really miss the Prime Directive and the other principles of the Federation.moreless
  • How the tables turns on an Archer

    10
Isn't it just overwhelming, when someone who seems to claim that straight arrows are the only way, he will find his life in a mess because of a cureball.

The prejudice against marauders an other pirates are now turned as he learn that the only way to complete the mission is to do the one thing that you consider is beneath yourself.

There is is no doubt that this is a powerful episode. We see how certain characters evolve and we also see how some people hae lived with the results of their actions.

In the end it is all very clean cut. There is no innocense, and in a race against time, playing it stragith is just not an option. Traversing a desert is about acepting values, an learning that living by them is almost impossible.

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Goof: As Hoshi and Travis work on translating the Xindi-Aquatic language, Hoshi's rank insignia is missing from her uniform. However, in her next scene, her rank pip is back on her uniform.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • T'Pol: Ensign, get us out of here.
Mayweather: Thrusters are down. I don't think we're going anywhere.

    • Arboreal: (to the Sphere Builder) We're grateful for the help that you've given us.
Builder: Then prove it. Focus on the task at hand. The weapon is nearly complete. If you permit yourselves to become distracted, you'll fail to destroy your real enemy. The enemy of all Xindi. Don't summon me again unless every member of the Council is present. I won't help fuel your internal bickering. (she vanishes)
      Humanoid: You don't believe her.
      Degra: Do you?
Humanoid: Why should we take Archer's word over hers?
Degra: Because Archer offered something she hasn't. Proof.

    • Archer: Hard to imagine that we'll ever get this ship back the way it was.
      Phlox
: It's a simple matter of repairs. Well perhaps not that simple. Somehow I don't think it's the damage to Enterprise that's troubling you.
Archer: How long have you been a doctor?
      Phlox: Nearly forty years.
Archer: And in all that time, did you ever do anything you thought was unethical?
      Phlox: Twice. Why?
Archer: I'm about to step over a line. A line I thought I would never cross. And given the nature of our mission, it probably won't be the last.

    • Trip: You did the right thing.
Archer: It seems the longer we're out here the more I have to keep saying that to myself.

    • Illyrian Captain: You're stranding us three years from home. Why are you doing this?
Archer: Because I have no choice.

    • Archer: (to T'Pol) We've had our share of disagreements, but you've never taken it out on my desk before.
