I agree with dcpgaus' review above.
This is a HORRIBLE episode and I immediately thought of the Voyager and TNG episodes that were similar. Seriously, can't you stop reusing?
I am going through all the episodes now as I missed this show when it came out. You can completely skip this as it adds no value to the overarching theme of the show. T'Pal does look hot as usual though LOLmoreless

  • Archer and friends start acting like apes...

This is a really poor episode. Watching Archer, Hoshi and Reed become infected and acting like apes is annoying and embarrassing. I can't imagine how the actors felt like - doing this episode. And it is unbelievable that considering their 'dna' has been impacted so severely, that they can return to normal so quickly and without harm! Really! But it is difficult to criticise this show, when Voyager did the same thing with Paris and Janeway turning into lizards(!) and having babies (!!!) and Next Generation turning the whole crew into various types of animals! Viewers can skip this episode altogether and it wouldn't make any difference at all.moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • When Archer and Sato are rescued from the planet, their uniforms are naturally torn and dirty, yet when they are brought to the bridge by Phlox, their uniforms are now clean and untorn, and their hair look normal. The time frame of this sequence of events didn't allow for them to get treatment, get changed and get their haircuts. Edit
    • T'Pol tells Enterprise that they are being mutated, and to send a security team. However, at this point there is no apparent security risk, and it furthermore seems highly illogical to risk further infection by sending more crewman to the surface. It would seem to be a better option to request to be beamed up to the ship, or at least to request that a medical team be sent down. Edit
    • Nitpick: Considering that there is an alien species that takes it upon themselves to "quarantine" and eliminate anyone infected with the virus, and keep a close enough eye on the planet to do so regularly, it seems highly unlikely that they would neither place a warning beacon in orbit, nor personally warn the Xindi ship or Enterprise. ADD NOTES
    • The director of this episode, LeVar Burton, previously played Lieutenant Commander Geordi LaForge on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

      Edit
    • This episode marks the change in the series' official title, as seen in the opening credits, from Enterprise to Star Trek: Enterprise. Edit
    • In an article on IGN.com, Doug Mirabello, Rick Berman's assistant, implied that LeVar Burton was ashamed to direct this episode. Edit

    ADD QUOTES
    • Archer : Captain's starlog, supplemental. We've given Phlox's serum to the captain of the containment vessel. With any luck, they'll be able to use it to prevent future outbreaks. As for Malcolm, Hoshi, and me, it may be a few days before we feel fully human again. Edit
    • Archer: We came out here to stop the Xindi from destroying humanity. I'll be damned if I have a hand in destroying another race in the process. Edit
    • Reed: What do you suggest I eat? Phlox: You're welcome to some of the moth larvae I feed my pyrithian bat. Edit
