Enterprise encounters a group of Vulcan civilians who have split off from the normal way of Vulcan life in an effort to explore their emotions. T'Pol is disturbed by the new visitors and warns the Captain that all attempts in the past to integrate Vulcan emotions into their lives has proven disastrous. Meanwhile, a message from Admiral Forrest leaves the Captain with the difficult task of trying to convince one of the visiting Vulcans to call home to speak with his dying father.
morelessT'Pol: (about the crew of the Vahklas) Just because they smile and eat chicken, doesn't mean they have learned to master their emotions.
Kov: There are alot of women on your ship. Trip: Nearly a third of the crew. Kov: Is it true you mate year-round with any of them you choose? Trip: You haven't been around Humans too much, have you? Kov: You are the first we've met. But I've heard alot of stories. Your people indulge their passions. Do you really eat six meals a day? Trip: More like three. Kov: What about sleep? I understand you spend more than half the day in bed? Trip: Eight hours. We sleep for eight hours. In my case, about six. When we're through here we might want to get a bite to eat. I might be able to clear up some of your, uh, misconceptions. Kov: Well, I'd like that Commander. Trip: Eh... call me Trip.
