Star Trek: The Animated Series

Season 1 Episode 12

The Time Trap

Aired Saturday 10:30 AM Nov 24, 1973 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • For some reason when Scotty is on the bridge briefing Kirk and Spock on the engines, nobody else is on the bridge. Given they're in a potentially hostile situation with time running out for them to analyze the situation and respond to it, why would the entire bridge crew leave, regardless of the shift.

    • Trivia: The Elysian Council appears to be made up of; Xerius (a Romulan), Devna (an Orion), a Klingon, a Kzinti-like creature but somewhat chubbier (see "Slaver Weapon"), an Andorian, an antlike creature, a plant creature (similar to the Phylosians in "The Infinite Vulcan"), an Aquan (perhaps from the planet in "The Ambergris Element"), a Vulcan, a Tellarite, a Human in an old-style Federation uniform, and a Gorn.

    • Kirk refers to the stardate as "52.2". Later he refers to it (correctly) as "5267.2" - they left out the "67" in the earlier reference.

  • Quotes

    • Kirk: But we are in the Delta Triangle.
Commander Kuri: I do not accept this.
Kirk: Frankly, Commander, what you accept is of little importance to me. Enterprise out.

    • Kirk: Got any miracles in your computer, Spock?
      Spock: Impossible to predict, Captain.
      Kirk: I don't want a prediction.

    • Kaz: Your willingness to work with your old enemy Kirk. It is not like you, Commander. What do you really have in mind?
Kor: You do know me, Kaz. Very well. What would you think of the Enterprise suddenly disintegrated after our duel ship had pierced the time continuum.
Kaz: I would think my commander had maneuvered brilliantly.

    • McCoy: Jim, I'm worried about Spock. He's just not acting normal.
Kirk: He's under a lot of pressure, Bones.
McCoy: I know that. But I've never known Spock to act like a pal under any circumstances. Least of all toward Klingons.

    • Xerius: You will fail.
Kirk: We must try, Xerius. Elysia is, in many respects, a perfect society. But with all its virtues, it is not home. And home with all its faults... is where we prefer to be.

  • Notes

    • In the November 1998 episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "Once More Unto the Breach", Kor mentioned that he served aboard the Klothos, a D-5-class battle cruiser sometime when the Klingons were still the adversaries of the Federation. Kor, of course, commanded the Klothos in the animated episode "The Time Trap." This is a direct tie-in, which makes the animated series that much more canon.

    • Coincidentally or not, this episode bears a strong resemblence to the August '72 Gold Key issue #15 of Star Trek.

    • James Doohan reprises the role of Kor from original actor John Colicos from the episode "Errand of Mercy". The character himself bears little resemblence to the Kor we saw in that episode although the implication is they are one and the same.
