Star Trek: The Next Generation

Season 2 Episode 8

A Matter Of Honor

Aired Unknown Feb 06, 1989 on CBS

  • Trivia

    • The captain of the Klingon ship tells his crewmember to speak in Riker's language. So what happened to the universal translator?

  • Quotes

    • Vekma (looking Riker over): He is not very attractive... but I will have him.
Male Klingon: They are inquisitive. They would like to know how you would endure.
      Riker: Endure what?
      Klag: Them.
(Riker looks over the two Klingon women)
      Riker: One or both?

    • Klag: Gagh is always best when served live. Would you like something easier?
      Riker: Easier?
Klag: Yes. If Klingon food is too strong for you, perhaps we could get one of the females to breast-feed you.

    • Riker: It is my understanding that one of the duties of the first officer on a Klingon vessel is to assassinate his captain.
      Worf: Yes, sir.
Riker: Wouldn't that bring about chaos?
Worf: Of course not. When and if the captain becomes weak or unable to perform, it is expected that his honorable retirement should be assisted by his first. Your second officer will assassinate you for the same reasons.
Riker: This method of attrition could take a little getting used to.

  • Notes

    • Several of the Klingon dishes that Riker eats during his farewell feast are stylized sushi. The sushi had been under the hot production lights for a long time for rehearsals, getting the set ready, etc. Jonathan Frakes actually ate all the sushi during the filming.

    • The Pagh was also the name of the Klingon ship that was destroyed in the film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

    • Geordi LaForge (LeVar Burton) and Counselor Troi (Marina Sirtis) do not appear in this episode.
