For some reason i feel like there was an episode where they had to seperate the ship in order to disguise themselves from pursuers as debris in a ship debris field. This debris field had been created by a bunch of other ships being destroyed from some battle or something. Does such an episode exist? Is it in one of the movies? I know i've seen this before.

    Anyone know?

I can remember only 4 times that the Enterprise-D seperated:

    Encounter at Farpoint
    The Arsenal of Freedom
The Best of Both Worlds, Part II
Star Trek: Generations (First TNG movie)

Now in the Unification episodes the Enterprise-D hides itself among a bunch of derelict ships at the shipyard at Qualar II. Maybe that's the episode you are thinking of? I hope this helps or points you in the right direction.

i remember unification, that wasn't it.

the thing i remember is that they had to seperate the ship to look like they had been damaged. cause if they were whole it would have given them away. but since they were in two peices it looked like they were part of the debris.

    man, am i dreaming this?

The only think I can think of that fits what you're talking about is from a Star Trek: The Next Generation books called:

Rogue Saucer by John Vornholt. (Outstanding Story)

You can check-out all the information on separation here at Memory Alpha . I'll have to do a little more research to see if what you are looking for came from a DS9 episode. Scott-

i would say maybe, but i've never read any of the books, i clearly remember seeing it on tv.
is there some other sci fi show i could be thinking of where they made their ship look like ship debris to hide?

None pop out at the moment but I'm still looking into the DS9 area to see if I can find anything. If I find anything I'll post it here. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Scott-
