Why did Scotty think Captian Kirk was alive?

    To follow it to the note, they would have had to have Scotty not be present in the film, but they wanted him there for nostalgia. That's about it. =P

    I just think Scotty was confused, he didn't know where or when he was, many people when waking up from a coma or even a bad dream call out for people they may know are dead. Plus in old age it has been shown that recent memories fade first, maybe he temporarily blanked on what happened to Kirk.

    The Enterprise crew were just lucky to rescue Scotty from that transporter. He's lucky he could remember who he was let alone the fate of Kirk.

    Im gonna have to say he was drunk as well....

    You see and this is a common misconception Scotty was not his real name nor was he from Scotland..

    He just drank so much Scotch that well turned him Scottish and people started calling him Scotty until we had what we saw for 78 episodes of TOS..and now you know
