  • An action-packed Trek tale of loyalty and friendship....

    8.5
.... I am somewhat puzzled over the lukewarm reputation of "Legacy" here on TV.com. The Enterprise is joined by Tasha Yar's sister Ishara as they attempt to rescue their crew members in a Civil War battle zone in this action-packed and entertaining episode.

Although the character of Ishara was not as interesting as the writers/producers undoubtedly thought she would be, "Legacy" is no TNG dud. The episode is very well filmed with fine pacing, energetic camera work and a lot of action. The thematic elements surrounding the relationship between Ishara and Data are the most satisfying of the episode, as Data deals with loss, friendship, betrayal and duty in his unique way. These entertaining elements make "Legacy" a very watchable and re-watchable episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" in my opinion.moreless
  • Inoffensive snoozer.

    6.0
This gang warfare allegory, the hundredth hour of Star Trek TNG, is a forgettable Data episode with a weak script and a poor guest star (Beth Toussaint). Spiner does his best to elevate a story that might have been okay in an early season of the show but is clearly of less interest than most of the other ideas in season four. Fortunately by this time the TNG actors could make almost any episode watchable. This one is an inoffensive snoozer.moreless
  • Yar family members don't make for good television. Among the weakest episodes of the 4th season.

    6.5
This episode has one great part - the poker sequence at the beginning, which is just incredible fun to watch.

The rest is very typical 2nd-tier TNG. The Enterprise discovers Tasha Yar's long lost sister, who is the member of a gang. (Perhaps this episode was intended as a commentary on gangs - but I don't know what the commentary actually is.) Yar Jr. insinuates herself into the crew members' hearts, including Data, and then betrays them at a crucial juncture.

Overall, that merits a big shrug and probably a yawn. As with most of the weaker episodes during seasons 3 & 4, there isn't anything offensively bad here.moreless

The "Enterprise" recieves a distress call from a federation freighter that is orbiting Turkana IV. When the "Enterprise" arrives the freighter explodes. Picard orders Riker to assemble a away team. Phasers are set to maximum stun due to govermental chaos on the planet. We find Ishara who is Tasha Yar's sister. Ishara gains everyones trust. Ishara helps recover the Freighter crew which is on the planet. Ishara presence is welcome aboard the "Enterprise" cause she reminds everyone of Tasha. But by far she is totally different. Will she become part of the crew? I rate this one a 6.3.moreless

    • In his initial log, Picard mentions the world Camus II. Camus II was the planet in the final episode of the original Star Trek. Because this was the 80th episode of TNG, the writers decided to include the world as a way of paying tribute to the original series, which lasted only 79 episodes.
