Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • In the scene in Engineering where Geordi and Data are tracing power flows, Geordi can been seen incorrectly wearing Commander's pips (three solid colored) instead of Lt. Commander's (two solid and one hollow).

    • When Geordi returns to the bridge after having transported the weapons to the surface, he walks towards the engineering console and proceeds to tap the controls. But the station lights up before he even touches the controls.

    • The Onizuka shuttlepod that Geordi uses to go to Risa is clearly shown to have only one central seat in the cockpit, but after it returns to the Enterprise, it suddenly has twin seats.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Governor Vagh: You swear well, Picard. You must have Klingon blood in your veins.

    • (talking about Picard and a Klingon ambassador)
Data: ...If they would agree to be searched...
Ambassador: I am a Klingon! An emissary of the High Council! I will not be searched by you or anyone else on this ship!
Governor: I'm forced to agree, Captain! We'll take him... and search him ourselves!

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Title:
Referencing Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, Act 1, Scene 1, specifically, "As the mote is to trouble the mind's eye." The line is spoken by Horatio, to Marcellus and Bernardo, after the Ghost departs.

    • Geordi's Brainwashing
The entire episode's plot is an allusion to the Sinatra film The Manchurian Candidate. The way Geordi was brainwashed and attempted to assassinate the Klingon leader is exactly like the 60's classic.
