  • Child's Play

Child's Play was a superb episode of Star Trek: Voyager and I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was a lot of action, drama, intrigue along with character and plot development. It was interesting to watch the Borg children as they were adapting to being on Voyager. Icheb was put in a difficult situation when Voyager located his biological parents and it was fun to watch that story unfold as untold secrets were revealed. I look forward to watching the next episode!!!!!!!moreless

What to do about those Borg children…

Two episodes ago, the Borg children were introduced to Voyager. The opening of this story is about a "Science Fair" on Voyager where the Borg children along with Naomi Wildman compete with their "way too cute" projects. It's definitely insulin time for those who can't take too much sugar.

Seeing a chance to rid the ship of one of the children, Janeway has located the parents of one of them (Icheb. Although the parents seem reasonable and rational, Seven has her doubts. Icheb decides to stay with his parents. However, his parents aren't very nice people. In fact, they'd constructed Icheb to be a poison if he were to be assimilated by the Borg. Once he comes home, they immediately send him out again to try and re-infect the Borg. Seven's tenacity works to rescue him once again.moreless

Janeway has found Icheb parents. Icheb is one of the children found on the Borg Vessel during Episode 136. Janeway informs Seven that she is going to have to say goodbye. When Voyager reaches Icheb's home planet, sensors locate a Borg transwarp conduit nearby. Seven is concern that leaving Icheb with his parents will put Icheb at risk of being reassimilated by The Borg. It seems as if Seven has become attached to Icheb and doesn't want to let go. Icheb goes to stay with his parents. Mezoti can't sleep She is worried Icheb will be taken by the Borg. I rate this episode a 9.6.moreless
  • This was a great look into Icheb's family, and into Seven's maternity instincts.

    8.8
If Seven were to ever have kids, officially, I think that she would be a good mother. After a difficult start in bringing the Borg kids into the fold, Seven's instincts to protect Icheb, even from his own biological parents, surfaces... and is a great look into what her character could become...

It's just a shame that the writers waited so long to have Seven date someone seriously. While the C/7 relationship (not my favorite pairing, but it could work, given the right circumstances), I don't see the relationship working too well, not the way that the writers presented the relationship... but that's just my opinion.

With Chakotay, or with someone else, Seven could, and probably would, make a good mother.moreless
  • An Icheb centered story, the first of many.

    9.0
I liked the way this episode starts. The children of Voyager, albeit mostly the Borg children are participating in the 1st annual Voyager Science Fair. I guess the reason I like it so much, is because it's not often in Voyager that there's been a lot of cohesion between the main adult crew and the adolescent crew which has now increased by 400%. Amazingly enough all the children come up with more or less, amazing feats of science.

Icheb creates a device that will allow Voyager to scan more closely for signs of wormholes, which earns Icheb a bit of clout amongst the crew. Unfortunately this notion is shattered for Seven, who soon learns that Icheb will be leaving the ship as they draw closer to his home planet.

This episode also shines a good deal of light on Seven, and her attempts at social interaction when it comes to telling Icheb that he'll soon have to leave Voyager. Soon after arriving at the planet, Seven begins to suspect something awry about Icheb's homecoming.

Throughout the episode, a bond is sensed between Seven and Icheb, which adds yet another layer to show that has so many intricacies.moreless
