Live Fast And Prosper was a superb and very entertaining episode of Star Trek: Voyager and I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was action, intrigue and drama. It was great watching the aliens pretending to be the Voyager crew and make deals and bail out on them. I really liked Captain Janeway in this episode as she dealt with those pretending to be her and her crew. This was a fun episode and I look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!

There's some originality here but where's the suspense?

A group of con-artist aliens are going around pretending to be Janeway and Tuvok and defrauding other aliens out of whatever they can get. On some levels, there's a unique storyline here. At first, in flashback, Neelix and Paris are conned out of some medical supplies. While that's occurring, the aliens steal a copy of the Voyager's database from the Delta Flyer. (Such great security, huh?) That's how they find out all they need to know about how to impersonate Janeway and Tuvok and start pulling their new con on unsuspecting aliens.

There's a twofold problem. First of all, who cares? Where's the suspense to Voyager other than their reputation? Secondly, the resolution requires a lot of plot contrivances that are pretty obvious and lame. Why not setup a real "Sting" resolution and truly "out con" the cons?moreless

This episode always reminds me of how poor season six was

ok lets take a look at this time last season ...

the last six episodes were

5:21 Juggernaught

5:22 Someone to watch over me

5:23 11:59

5:24 Relativity

5:25 Warhead

5:26 Equinox

its quite hard to believe that a season later we are closing off the season with episodes like 'muse' , 'the haunting of deck twelve' and this one

well this episode isn't exactly badly written, i mean the script is good, the acting was good, it was directed well (mr levar burton back at the helm) ...its just the plot was bad, it was a very poor storyline, i don't see how it was ever going to work

and i'm starting to get annoyed that Tuvok and Seven of nine are always able to beam off the ship when the shields are down, seven is new to this techniwue but tuvok has been doing it for years ;-)moreless

Captain Janeway and Tuvok imposters are making deal with other aliens. The real Janeway tries using the sonic showers, but it malfunctions. The Neelix's food replicator malfunctions in the mess hall. He got it from some aliens who said they where helping orphans. The trade was fair, real food for a replicator. Well almost fair, unknown to Neelix and Paris while they had their eyes closed in prayer. One of the aliens downloaded Voyager's database. Janeway is not happy. She orders the crew to find those imposters. Well, The crew finds the imposters, but it may be too late. I rate this episode a 9.6moreless

Con Men in the delta quadrant start impersonating the Voyager crew, or two of them, and create issues for our little lost crew.

The idea is sound in principle. Of course, the execution of the episode leaves a lot to be desired. It's obviously late season and they're rushing through things to get to their kick-butt season finale. Once they capture the fake captain it gets confusing because it's more important to try and surprise the audience than it is to tell a coherent story.

And of course, why doesn't Janeway try and talk her way out of the issue instead of coming in all guns blazing? Which is to me a little out of character for her.

I give this an average rating because...well it was. Unfortunately for this show, average isn't a good thing. I'm really starting to hate this season again. So many peaks and valleys. I just wish they could be consistent...and hopefully consistently good. That's asking for too much from people who make television for living?moreless
