  • Hackett lifts an uninspired script

    7.0
Martha Hackett returns as Seska in this Chakotay episode that's a sequel to first season's "State of Flux". Starting out as a cat and mouse game, it quickly turns into a POW story that's as much about Seska and the Kazon as Voyager.

Most of it is uninspired, with Voyager conveniently having some major security lapses when necessary for the plot, tough guy Chakotay laughing at his interrogators, and Janeway blowing a clear opportunity to force the Kazon to hand Seska over. Along the way, we learn a little more about the Kazon, but the casting department ages them up too greatly to continue the original idea of a gang culture.

Seska's a fun character however, and it's interesting to see how transporter technology can shift the power within the Kazon culture. It's sort of like watching a small gang from a city that's never seen firearms and seeing what they can do with a gun.

    Seska returns in "Alliances".

  • Maneuvers

    8.0
Maneuvers was a great episode of Star Trek: Voyager and I really enjoyed watching this episode as Chakotay took matters into his own hands after Kazon's steal some transporter technology. A familiar face from Chakotay's past is revealed and the story unfolded in an exciting way. There was action, drama, intrigue and suspense. The ending of the episode was a big shock and I look forward to watching the next episode of Star Trek: Voyager!!!!!moreless

The “Voyager” crew is receiving a radio transmission using a federation signal. Could it be the Federation has found the “Voyager” crew? Janeway orders the ship to rendezvous with the signals point of origin. When the “Voyager” crew reaches the area where the signal came from, they are attack by a Kazon vessel which makes it past the shields. The vessel crashes into cargo bay 2. Immediately the Kazon intruders make it to transporter room 2 and steal federation transporter technology. Remember Seska she is back and looking for trouble. Don’t worry. Chakotay will get even.moreless
  • Voyager finds a beacon transmitting on a Federation frequency, and stops to investigate.

    7.3
This episode brings back Seska, the Cardassian spy who fled Voyager with the Kazon in an earlier episode. Seska plots with the Kazon to capture the starfleet technology to further Kazon interests in the Delta quadrant. The episode advances the plotlines between Seska and the rest of the crew of Voyager, and even leaves a bit of a cliffhanger at the end that will have to be dealt with in a later episode. Overall, it was good to see more long term plot lines developed, and the surprise ending leaves something to be looked forward to in a later episode.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Trivia: This episode is the first time Seska is seen in her Cardassian form.

    • Goof: After attempts to beam Chakotay at warp fail, they drop out of warp and engage the Kazon in battle. During battle, their shields are up. They wouldn't be able to beam him over while the shields are up. However, they do so until Seska steals his pattern back through Voyager's shields. That shouldn't have been able to happen, either.

    • Nitpick: As Chakotay's shuttlecraft passes close to the camera, the "74656" markings on it's rear section are reversed, due to the film being flipped. This would happen again in "The Raven" due to the footage being reused.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Janeway: I'm putting you on report, in case that means anything anymore.
Chakotay: It means something to me, Captain. It means I've let you down ...and for that I'm truly sorry.

    • Seska: Hello, Chakotay. Congratulations on your victory. I look forward to our next meeting. Oh, and there's something you should know. While you were unconscious, I took the liberty of extracting a sample of your DNA. I impregnated myself with it. So, I guess more congratulations are in order. You're going to be a father.

    • Chakotay: Flattery, devotion, sex... I thought she had a lot to offer a man.

    • Culluh: Give me the command codes!
Chakotay: I'll give you something better.
      Culluh: What?
      Chakotay: First hand information.
Culluh: (leaning forward with an avaricious look) Go ahead.
Chakotay: (laughing) When Seska's through with you... she's gonna kill you!

    • Chakotay: I see the Nistrim take orders from you now.
Seska: Let's just say I'm in a position of some influence, which is fortunate for you. Culluh wanted to execute you immediately, but I convinced him that you'd be a valuable prisoner, and that I should be the one to interrogate you.
      Chakotay: Lucky me.
