  • Borg takes lessons from hologram on how to be human. Weird or what?

Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine is a character that divides Voyager fans, in particular those who resented the unceremonious dumping of Kes. This episode shows why the producers made a change. Great science fiction is at its best when it holds up a mirror to ourselves & enables us to see ourselves from outside. This perception usually comes from an alien. The trick here is that it comes from someone who is human but also isn't. She is more alien than either Neelix or Kes, simply because she is like us.

Which brings us to this examination of human dating rituals. The plot isn't original, but that doesn't matter. It's is all in the writing, the quality of dialogue & the beautifully understanded performances of the cast as it exposes what we all go through as teenagers, and how it might be if we were all remorselessly logical. And poor old Harry Kim tries to put himself in the firing line again.

This is a gentle, funny episode and one to be treasured.
