Barrett died on December 18, 2008, at her home in Bel-Air, Los Angeles, California as a result of complications from leukemia. She was 76.

    She will be greatly missed!

Very sad news. I hope she was able to record all the dialogue for the new movie and that the film is dedicated to her. Either way, it's a great loss to Star Trek as a whole.

Very sad, we're losing all our tv sci fi heroes. The ones who made such break throughs in tv and film. I'm afraid some of the younger fans will never know how little sci fi was regarded in the 60's and 70's. Back then it was considered kids stuff. Now the suits milk it like a CGI cash cow. It's comforting to know that Majel Barrett was there in the beginning and she was able to see what Star Trek has become today, many years after Gene Roddenberry's death.

So many people from the original series are passing away now. Pretty sad to see, although I'm glad she had a long, fulfilling career.
