For a series that has had a number of strong entries in its first season, this episode is one of the weaker ones we've seen. Maybe it was the return to Naboo, maybe the reappearance of Jar-Jar voiced by a guy who sounds so unlike him that it's distracting, or maybe the plot wasn't inspired. For whatever reason, I couldn't really get into this one, the story of the deadly virus with Padme and Jar-Jar put in danger by the schemes of the mad scientist. Perhaps it was the moments where my suspension of disbelief had had enough (like why didn't Anakin and Obi-Wan just use the Force to catch those vials?)

Still, the episode has its merits. The evil scientist, while somewhat stereotypical, is also delightfully entertaining and fits the mold of the old-fashioned serials bad guys Lucas has probably always hoped for in his dreamed up universe. We get several new character designs, including the first appearance of Captain Typho from the movies. We get a look at a demo specialist team of clone troopers and Anakin and Obi-Wan have some of the best back and forth to date, even if it was few and far between. In either case, the episode could have been a lot better.moreless

Boring, and featuring many an unfun stereotype

I've missed the last couple of episodes but coming back into it with this was not good. It was full of stereotypes and odd texture choices. The Naboo countryside looked awful in particular with its smooth green textures. There are some good things like the lightsaber fights in the corridors and the captured droid getting brain surgery, C3PO getting to trick it into telling secrets. The little droid that waddles about with the last bomb is cute as well although reminds me of characters from one of the animatrix cartoons.

The bad far outweighs the good though. I've mentioned the ugly looking Naboo but my main problem is the mad maniacal German doctor. It's a stereotype that when done good can get a good laugh and be well balanced. Herr Docktor from ReBoot springs to mind as a great character, the Doctor in this doesn't. The performance and script is flat and although the virus is a major threat (you could even say too much of a threat, it's too powerful and can't be controlled) you have no illusion to the fact that it will be stopped. Genocidal weapons have appeared in the show before but the infection of the water and the killing of a few female Jar Jar cows just feels like Nothing. Not even the mad babbling and the fact that its now airbourne makes me feel this could ever go ahead.

A disappointing watch for me, it's clear now that genocidal weapons may feature and succeed soon. If they have someone behind the creation of that weapon however, please no more stereotypical Mad German doctors.moreless

Padme and Jar Jar Binks are searching for a virus which is killing all species for any who drink from the river, but they get captured and whilst Anakin is very frustrated as he wants to save Padme eventually they stop the virus.moreless

I really enjoyed the episode because it was very exciting with all of the action that it had in it, especially at the end. I really like the inclusion of tactical droids because they sound intelligent and are very strong too. Jar Jar Binks has been great but i would love to see him have a gun because that would be very funny. Ashoka has been great too because she is a very good fighter and very skillful with her lightsaber. The personal droid of the doctor is really cool and in one bit of the episode he even made me jump with his loud shout and that was quite cool too.moreless
